Chapter Four
Wes
Two days of lying on the couch and watching ESPN would sound like a dream come true to some, but I nearly lost my mind. I like to move and have been itching to run, but I know it’s still too soon.
Today I returned to work since I can keep my activity to a minimum as an eleventh grade American history teacher. My assistant coach will step in after school so I’m not tempted to do more than I should.
My scrotum has almost returned to normal size after icing it, and the pain has lessened dramatically. Although, now I have a new pain settling there, one I can blame on a gorgeous woman I can’t stop thinking about.
Natalia.
The mere thought of her causes blood to rush to my dick. Any sort of resemblance to an erection in a room full of minors is horrifying. It doesn’t matter if it’s only a semi. It’s awkward and inappropriate. To say I’ve been sitting behind my desk more often lately is an understatement. Thankfully the students are too engrossed in their own lives to notice.
I’m looking forward to seeing her in person soon. We’ve talked daily via text but rarely over the phone as we’re both working.
Her favorite food is Mexican, and it seems she can eat it nearly every day. I’m not sure my stomach can handle it, and I expect hers is made of steel. Then again, I’ll take the risk if it means spending time with her.
“Dad?”
I put the last item in my bag and look up into Reece’s face. He looks so much like his mother. “Hey, bud, everything okay?”
Sighing, he drops his head and stares at the tips of his shoes. “I know it’s my weekend with you, but I forgot and made plans to see this movie with one of the guys from the Silver Hawks team. I’d reschedule, but it’s only showing this weekend.”
If Reece pulled this with Bridgette, she would lose her mind. I hate seeing the hesitant expression on his face and the way his shoulders slump. “No, bud, that’s fine. It happens. What movie? Maybe your old man can tag along.”
Reece’s chuckle softens his features, and I can’t help but smile. My boy may still be in there, but every day he becomes more of a man.
“You could… but it’s anime, and I know you don’t like it.”
My brow creases. “Yeah…”
“Told you!”
I laugh. “I’ll watch something else while you enjoy your carto—”
“Dad!”
“Movie?” I ask and cock my head to the side.
“Thanks!” he calls out and disappears as quickly as he snuck in.
I shake my head and smile. For all the shit going down between Bridge and me, we raised a good kid. Now I just need her to quit using him as a pawn. My heart races with anger at the thought.
Last week she hit me up for more money. When I told her not onlynobuthell no,she threatened to keep Reece from me this coming weekend. I reminded her of the judge’s stipulations and told her I’d call the cops on her if she did.
Hot and cold. If it suits her, she’ll give me extra time with my boy. She’ll hang him out to dry just as fast. Bridgette didn’t become this way until the last two years of our marriage. She lost her damn mind. Thankfully I get to see him daily when I’m at work. He’s a freshman, so I don’t have him in my class, but on the field it’s different.
I shut off the light and close the door. A few students mill about the hall, usually those who have after-school activities. My phone vibrates against my thigh, and I smile when I have it in my hand.
Natalia: You thought coming in swollen was bad? There are some things which can’t be unseen…
I laugh and consider the possibilities.
Wes: Pus draining from an armpit?
Natalia: No.
Wes: Sawed-off nipple?
