After a long moment, she looks up at me through her lashes and smiles. "Lock the door."

My heart kicks into overdrive. "Are you sure?"

She kisses me again, slow and deep, then whispers against my lips, "The only thing I'm sure of right now is that I want you, Logan Rivers."

I don't need to be told twice.

Chapter twenty-three

Coco

IhearPoppy’sshrieksof laughter before I see her, and the rush of emotion at hearing her voice makes me realize how much I’ve missed my skating students. Especially Poppy.

Poppy slides down the hallway like Tom Cruise in his underwear, gliding to a stop just outside my door. “Hurry, Daddy! I can’t wait to see Coco.”

She presses her nose to the glass, eyes lighting up when she spots me.

Logan strides down the hall, all casual confidence and muscled grace, amusement crinkling the corners of his eyes. He pauses in my doorway, hands tucked into the pockets of his well-worn jeans. “Slow down, Poprocks. Coco’s not going anywhere.” His gaze lifts, finding mine through the open doorway.

Our eyes meet and lock, a smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. “You in that dress is like cool water in the Sahara.”

Heat floods my cheeks and I duck my head, fussing with the hem of my sundress. “Thanks. You’re not so bad yourself.”

He chuckles, the sound rich and warm like melted caramel. When I glance up, mischief glints in his gaze. “Careful, or I might get the wrong idea.”

I arch a brow, unable to resist the urge to flirt back. “And what idea is that?”

“That you find me as irresistible as I find you.”

My traitorous heart stutters at the implication. I swallow hard, summoning a teasing grin. “In your dreams, Rivers.”

If only he knew the truth.

Poppy smiles to herself and throws her arms around me, nearly knocking me back onto the bed. “Coco! I missed you so much.” She beams with delight when she spots the collection of her drawings all taped to the wall next to my bed.

I hug her close, blinking back tears. “I missed you too, sweet pea. Thanks for sending all the pretty pictures.”

When she pulls away, she wrinkles her nose at the antiseptic smell of the hospital. “It stinks in here. A little bit. Not you.”

I laugh. “Tell me about it. I’ll be very glad to get out of this place.”

“Daddy said you’re coming home today!” She claps her hands together, eyes shining with joy. “Does that mean you can teach me to skate again?”

“Not quite yet.” I ruffle her hair affectionately. “The doctor wants to keep monitoring me for a few weeks. But hopefully soon.”

Her face falls and she sticks out her bottom lip in an exaggerated pout. Logan chuckles, pulling her into his lap as he takes a seat in the chair beside my bed. “Don’t worry, Poptart. Coco will be back to bossing you around the ice in no time.”

I mock glare at him. “I do notbossher around. I coach her.”

“Tomato,tomahto.”

I toss my pillow at his head, unable to tamp down my smile. “You’re trouble.”

He catches the pillow easily, eyes glinting with mirth. “And yet you love me anyway.”

My breath hitches at the casual claim, a warm blush staining my cheeks. I look away, busying myself with gathering the last few items on my bedside table.

Silence falls over the room and I can feel the weight of Logan’s gaze on me. I’m saved from responding by Nurse Barb popping her head in the door.
