A cop led a handcuffed Davorion into the main room.

Seryn put his calm smile back into place as if it were a mask.

They made Davorion sit on a bench outside what Seryn knew was a booking room. Seryn didn't ask permission to go past the barrier. The cop tried to stop him, but all Seryn had to do was meet his gaze. The guy just shook his head, rolled his eyes, and gestured to the whole room. "Make yourself at home."

"You people fucked over my husband." It was all he needed to say to let the guy know he knew he could do whatever he wanted.

Seryn sat next to Davorion. They sat in silence for several minutes. Seryn didn't have to speak first. Davorion was the type of person who wouldn't stay silent.

"I recognize you. I suppose you're here to gloat."

"I'm here to kill you."

Davorion chuckled. "You're going to kill me? That's not the worst thing, is it? Your friend understood that. Go ahead and kill me. It's better than the alternative."

Seryn smiled. "You'd rather die?"

Seryn reached into his pocket and pulled out the needle. It wasn't difficult to do while Davorion talked. He was a man who liked to hear himself, after all.

Davorion shook his head. "I'd rather relive this day over again. I wouldn't have come had I known what I had to lose. But I wanted revenge. I think you understand the sentiment."

"Yes, I do." Seryn stuck the needle into Davorion's arm and pushed the plunger down.

Davorion winced, and then his eyes widened when he saw the syringe.

Seryn put the cap back over the needle and put it in his pocket. "At first, you'll develop pain in your chest. The prison doctors will think you're human, so they'll prescribe you heart medicine. Do you know what that medication does to a vampire? It's very painful. They won't know what's going on. And you know doctors. They just keep prescribing meds."

Davorion opened his mouth to speak, but nothing came out.

Seryn met his gaze. "This way, we both get what we want."

"I never wanted…"

"Not you. Mitchell and I. Daddy said I couldn't kill you but this way, you'll live for years, tortured by pain, only to eventually die." Seryn lost his smile. He made his eyes turn red. "You made a mistake, Mr. Davorion. You fucked with my mate. You shouldn't have done that."

Seryn stood and headed back to the waiting area.

It felt like forever before Mitchell came out with Gina right behind him.

Mitchell still had blood on his shirt, and he was pale, but he seemed okay otherwise.

Seryn hugged him as soon as they were close enough. "It worked."

"It did."

"I still killed Davorion," Seryn whispered so only Mitchell heard.

Mitchell raised his eyebrows as he glanced at Davorion, who still waited on the bench. "Seems fine to me."

"It'll be a slow death. Years. He'll die in jail."

"I told you not to do that, baby." Mitchell rubbed his back as he led them out of the station.

"I was never going to obey you."

Mitchell chuckled.

"I'll be in touch." Gina went in the opposite direction. The next thing she said, she called over her shoulder. "Try to stay out of trouble."
