"Not unless you give your consent. But I might put a spell on you." Seryn winked and then promptly yawned again.

"Come on." Mitchell patted the bed.

Seryn sighed and then took his duster off, laying it carefully in the chair. And then he moved the chair closer to the bed before sliding in next to Mitchell. He laid his head on Mitchell's chest and shut his eyes. "I was just joking about the spell. I'd never hurt you."

"I know, sweetheart. You just sleep. We'll talk later." Mitchell was surprised that Seryn joked at all.

Seryn nodded and then sighed. Mitchell lay awake, waiting for Seryn to fall asleep. As soon as he did, so did Mitchell.

Chapter Eight

Seryn had to wear sunglasses inside the hospital because his eyes glowed red the second they took Mitchell to surgery. He sat on the chair that would have been next to Mitchell's bed had the hospital staff not wheeled him out of the room on it.

Seryn eyed Todd, who sat on the bench with his eyes shut. He wasn't sleeping, but he didn't want to talk, which was fine by Seryn. The doctors not letting Seryn go with Mitchell pissed him off. For the first time in a long time, he let his anger show. Except he couldn't show unsuspecting humans his not so human traits.

Seryn pulled out his phone and pressed the button to call Daruss.

Daruss answered on the second ring.

"It won't take long for Davorion to find us. We'll need another car. In four or five days. I'll call you."

"Jude will want to talk to Mitchell, Seryn."

"Soon."

"Now."

"He's in surgery." Seryn wasn't in the mood for Daruss's commands. Not when Mitchell had freed him from the visions. "Soon."

"Surgery?"

"His injuries were extensive. His last fight almost killed him."

"I'm not telling Jude that."

"You can tell him whatever you want."

Daruss sighed. "How many did you kill?"

"Enough to give us a couple of days head start, but I failed to get Davorion. Our location will be compromised soon."

Todd opened his eyes, listening to Seryn's end of the conversation. He frowned.

"Are you alright? Any injuries?"

"Nothing worth mentioning." The wound on his side had scabbed over.

"What is worth mentioning?"

"They won't let me in the operating room."

Daruss chuckled. "It makes sense that they wouldn't."

"If they knew how much danger he's in, they would. I'm the only one who can protect him."

"Do you need backup now?"

"No." Seryn took a deep breath. He shouldn't take his anger out on Daruss, who didn't deserve it. "Maybe. I don't know yet."
