“Fine. Imagineuscooking in there.”
“Now, I like that better.” I winked. “So, I think I need to go check out my apartment tonight.”
“Oh.” She blinked. “Yeah, totally.”
“Do you want to stay here or come with me?”
“I … should I come with you?”
I thought for a moment. “Only Emily and the driver know we’re here, so I think you’ll be okay by locking the doors and keeping Amore by your side.”
“You think?”
“You’ll be fine.” I leaned forward and took her hand. “Like I said, no one knows we’re here, and I’ll be as fast as I can. Maybe bring back pizza?”
“Pizza sounds good.” She grinned.
“All right.” Since I didn’t have my car, I ordered one to pick me up, and once it was a few minutes away, I stood and kissed Frankie briefly. “I love you, and I’ll be back soon.”
“While you’re gone, I’ll look for stuff for Lucy.”
“That’s a good idea.” I had no clue what to buy my sister for her unborn baby, but she had a registry, and I assumed Frankie would purchase stuff from there.

“Thanks, man,”I said to the rideshare driver as I opened the backseat door once we arrived at my apartment.
“Have a good evening.”
“You too.”
I slid out and made my way to Arnold’s office. Since he’d changed the locks, I needed to get a key from him. I entered, and he looked up from the computer on his desk.
“Officer Davenport.”
“Luke.” I shook my head, smiling.
“You’re back?”
“I am, but”—I rubbed the back of my neck—“I’ll be vacating my apartment in thirty days.”
He frowned slightly. “You are?”
“A lot is going on, and I’m going to move in with my girlfriend.” Saying Frankie was my girlfriend made my stomach dip. I’d never said out loud to someone that she was mine, but she was and always would be. I knew I needed to head back to the rental house because she was alone and probably freaking out.
“I understand.”
“But I came to get the new key from you.”
“Oh, right.” He opened the top drawer of his desk and pulled out a set of two keys on a keyring. “Here you go.”
“Thanks.” I took them from him. “I’m not moving my stuff out yet, but I will in about two weeks.”
“Not a problem.”
“Thank you.” I stuck out my hand. “And thank you for dealing with the police after the break-in.”
He took my hand. “Of course. Do you know who it was?”
