“Blaine.” His voice carried that warning note.
I raked a hand down my face, shaking my head. “Kiki, it’s not what you think.”
He arched a brow. “So you haven’t been engaging in any relations with her then.”
“Even if I have…” I shot back, meeting his stare, “…don’t act like you have it all figured out now. You didn’t even recognize her.”
“Blaine…” His voice lowered just slightly, like he was bracing for disappointment, bracing for words that were probably going to disappoint me. “You know what I told you before.”
I swallowed, throat tight. “I love her, Kiki.”
Killian sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “You’ve said that before. We both know you fall easily—”
“Not like this.” My words cracked out raw, certain. “I’m in love with her. Not to get into her pants. Not some short-lived puppy love. This isreal. The Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet kind of love.”
He stared me down, skeptical as hell, waiting for the punchline. Waiting for me to crack like I always do.
So I did the only thing that felt right. I dropped to my knees in front of him, like a man fighting for his one true love.
He sighed, exasperated. “Oh, good Lord.”
“She makes me a better man, a better person… a better Blaine,” I said, my voice steady despite the ridiculous position I was in.
His glare sharpened. “Get your ass up off the floor.”
“No.” I shook my head, stubborn to the bone. “This is the only way I can express how much she means to me. You can mock meall you want. You know even you can’t hide from the face of true love.”
“I sure wish I could…” he muttered before he let out another slow, suffering sigh. Though this one wasn’t unconvinced or not approving. It was acknowledgment. Not acceptance but a glimpse of understanding that made my sliver of hope for his approval grow tenfold. Not that I needed it, but having it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.
For a second, I swore I saw his expression flicker… something between “you’re an idiot” and “maybe you’re right.”
“Can’t believe you managed to keep this of all things a secret.” He shook his head.
I shrugged. “Had to let a few out of the bag every now and then to ease the pressure of it.”
He stared at me, silent. Thinking.
Then, finally, he flicked a hand through the air and let out a sigh that sounded way too much like resignation.
“Fine, you have my blessing,” he grumbled.
And just like that, I was smiling like the goddamn Cheshire Cat.
He didn’t stick around to bask in my victory, of course. Just turned and walked off… probably back to his wedding, doing his best to erase the image of his best man and maid of honor sneaking off behind the live band to get freaky.
Speaking of the maid of honor—
My beautiful Sunshine popped her head into the door, looking down the hall at Killian striding away, before she rushed into the room. “What did he say?” she asked adorably as I chuckled from the ground.
“We have his blessing.”
Her lips parted, surprise flashing across her face before a slow, radiant smile broke through. “You’re serious?”
“Of course I am, baby.”
The grin remained plastered on my face as I was essentially tackled to the ground by her hug and smothering kisses to my face. Her laughter rang out, soft and breathless, each press of her lips making me forget where the hell we even were. My arms locked tight around her waist, Blaine Jr. loving every moment of her sexy little body pressed against mine, my lips hungrily devouring hers.
I flipped us in one smooth motion, pinning her with my body beneath me on the carpet. Her hands wrapping around my neck, pulling me in impossibly closer.
