Chapter one
Blaine
“Mr. Porter? Mr. Porter.” My secretary’s knock was followed by the voice I dreaded most.
“Open the door. I know he’s in there.” Killian.
I groaned, sliding under my desk like a kid hiding from the bogeyman.
Was this childish? Maybe. Was I afraid? Yes…Why?Because my best friend, or rather in his eyes, acquaintance, was coming into my office to make my life a living hell, and I was about to quite literally shit my pants.
The door opened. “He was here a minute ago,” my secretary chirped. “Asked for a Snickers and Hershey’s kisses.”
Killian sighed. “When does that idiotnothave chocolate in his mouth?”
I had to roll my eyes. Yes, I had it every day, but he didn't have to exaggerate... Fruit exists, not that I would eat an apple before candy—
“Blaine,” he said flatly.
I pulled myself farther into the corner.Maybe if I'm still enough, he won't see me—
"I can see you, you idiot. Get up!”
Dammit. Busted. I looked over to see the devil himself staring back at me. I whined as I stood up and looked over to my traitor secretary.
“So... you let him in, but my request for my midday snack goes unnoticed, huh?" I asked, outraged.
Killian shoved me into my desk chair. I gaped up at him in shock as he dismissed Wendy… or was it Kelsey? Regardless…the nerve of this man.
"What the hell is wrong with you this morning?" he barked like the hound he was.
I spun my chair away dramatically. He spun it back, eyes narrowed. "Answer.”
"I'm going through withdrawal, Kiki… I can't control my symptoms," I said, shrugging.
He rolled his eyes. "Of course you can't." He pulled a Snickers bar out of his pocket and held it at the edge of the desk. I made a move to reach for it, and he moved it away.
"Why did you cancel our meeting this afternoon?”
I sighed as I snatched the bar from his hold. I tore the wrapper with my teeth. “Because we’re going to the club. Masahiko’s buddy has a bachelor party. He can’t make it, so… invitation extended to us.”
“We’re not going.”
“Why not!” I whined.
His glare could’ve sent me six feet under.
“Blaine... need I remind you that you have a company to run, and I am getting sick and tired of feeding you all the damn time and being your babysitter. It's time you grew up and started taking some responsibility."
I made a face as I took another bite of the chocolate bar and raised my hand to silence him.
"Listen, Kiki… you may be wise or smart or whatever you tell yourself in the mirror every morning, but you are not my father…Even though you're scaring me into listening to you, we are going to that party whether you like it or not."
He tilted his head before nodding. "OK. We can go under one condition."
"Dealing with the devil, I see… All right, give me your worst, Lucifer." I smiled.
"You refrain from having any kind of sexual interaction with any woman. Tonight will be strictly platonic."
