His face is wrought with worry, his eyes scanning my body to make sure I’m not hurt.

“You’re okay,” he whispers.

“I’m fine.”

He exhales a sigh of relief and scoops me up into his arms.

“Target has been obtained, sir,” Snake says.

“What have I told you about calling her a target!”

Snake chuckles.

Hunter looks down to see Chet, his face contorting in surprise.

“I’m so sorry,” I say.

“It’s fine. I guess it makes sense.”

Snake binds Chet’s hands behind his back. “Why don’t you leave this scene to us?”

“FBI will be here soon, so you’re going to have to work with them,” Hunter says.

“Roger that.”

“I can walk on my own,” I tell Hunter once we’ve left the room.

“It’s so good to see you!” He sets me down and covers my face with kisses. “I was so worried.”

“I’m fine.”

“I know you’re probably exhausted and eager for sleep, but I’m afraid we’re going to have to meet up with the FBI at Icor Tower.”

I exhale a nervous breath, knowing that what’ll come out in this conversation will forever change how Hunter sees me, because Chet only had part of the story.

And the rest is terrible.

“It’s okay. I’m tired, but I can get through it.”

He gives me one last kiss. “Good, now let’s get to the chopper.”

Arinessa

The mood going backto Icor Towers is somber. Probably because we have no idea what’s going to happen.

The helicopter lands and Hunter does his best to give me a warm smile, but his worried eyes tell me he’s in pain.

“I’m sorry about what you’re going through,” I say.

His brow draws inward. “You’re the last person who should be sorry. I got you kidnapped.”

“Guided,” I return, and we both smile.

I don’t think he’s going to be as forgiving once he hears what I have to say, however.

We’re escorted by Gabriel down to a boardroom.

“This is where I first met my wife,” he says.
