Cam returned from the bathroom and placed the test on the counter. The women gathered around. All of them were focused on the tiny window.
Cam put her hands over her eyes. “I can’t look.”
Delaney and Emery each gripped one of Cam’s shoulders.
“We’ll look for you. The first line is showing,” Emery reported.
“What about the second line? Is the second line showing?” Cam pulled down her hands. “I can’t not look.”
The faintest second line appeared, a collective gasp sounding as it darkened.
She held the test stick up to the example, studying the comparison image on the box like it held the secrets to the universe. “I think I’m pregnant,” Cam whispered.
She stepped back, her expression stunned as she looked from sister to sister. “All three of us are pregnant.” They each nodded slowly, seemingly unable do anything but stare at one another.Keeley remembered finding out she was pregnant as being so monumental it was like the earth shifting on its axis.
“How is this possible?” Cam asked.
Delaney looked at her sisters, who gazed back with wide eyes. “I don’t know. What are the odds of us all being pregnant at the same time?”
“I think that would be really long odds.” Emery gave a shaky laugh. “Life is about to get very interesting.”
Delaney linked arms with Keeley. “We’re all going to be aunties. This will be so much fun.” This was why Keeley loved these women. Even though the three of them were sisters, she never felt like an outsider.
Delaney’s comment broke open the floodgates. With loud whoops of happiness, they met in a tangle of arms in a group hug. They broke apart when the kitchen door opened. The room suddenly felt overly crowded as four tall, gorgeous men trooped in, taking up most of the space.
“What the hell’s going on here?” Walker dropped his scowl when he stood in front of his wife, reaching out to run a finger down the side of her face. “Hey, babe.”
Delaney leaned into him. “Hey yourself.”
Sawyer looked handsome in his uniform, the deputy star shiny on his chest. Cam grabbed his hand and pulled him back out the door. “Come on, lieutenant. I’ve got something to tell you.”
Shane dipped his head to nuzzle Emery’s neck.
Keeley scooped up Willa so she wouldn’t get trampled, dropping a kiss on the little dog’s head. Despite the pang of longing, she was absolutely, one hundred percent happy for her friends.
Three babies? That was the best kind of happiness, surpassing all others.
She wiped happy tears with her sleeve.
Owen planted himself beside her, his sharp blue gaze locked on her. “Why are you crying?”
“I’m not,” she said as she wiped her cheeks again. At his look, she said, “Okay, maybe a little. But these are happy tears.”
A shout sounded from outside. Keeley peeked out the window to see Sawyer lifting Cam off her feet, his face buried in her neck. When he let her down, she gestured to the house, talking fast.
Walker bracketed Delaney’s face with his hands. “I repeat, Laney, what the hell’s going on?”
“We’re pregnant. We’re all pregnant.”
Owen jerked like he’d received an electrical shock, and his brows slammed down in a scowl.
“What?” Shane growled, dropping an arm over Emery’s shoulders. “That’s not possible.”
Sawyer and Cam trooped back in, hand in hand, both with happy grins on their faces.
“You too, brother?” Walker asked.
At Sawyer’s dazed nod, he, Shane, and Walker shared a moment of stunned silence much like the women had, then let loose in an exchange of bro hugs and back slapping that could’ve toppled tall buildings.
