Dimitri gave her a mocking smile that made her want to close the gap between them and just slap him.
Her fists balled at her side in restraint. "No. I don’t care what you threaten me with, I'm not leaving."
"The new tenants have already signed their lease and will be moving-in in a month," he announced, waving a hand at the room. "The contractors will be arriving in two days to remodel this time capsule."
"But-" No, this couldn't be happening.
His wintry gaze settled pointedly on her. "And you and I will be moving into the property we viewed last night."
"Let me guess, the rock and roll one?" she asked, exasperated with everything that was happening.
Dimitri's mouth tilted in a grin. "You seemed to like that one best."
Eve shook her head. "No! I'm not doing it. I will go to the police this time if you try and force me."
"You won't," he replied knowingly. With his hands casually folded over his chest, he gave her a smug look that made her want to throw something at him. "Because you know as much as I do you don't want to see your grandparents ousted from their new home. With nowhere to go and no job between the three of you, where would you go?"
Eve looked at him in horror.
Still wearing that taunting little smirk, Dimitri walked over to her and reached for her elbow, pulling her close despite her resistance. Wrapping his arms around her back, he hugged her tight to his chest. His strong arms felt hard and unyielding as he gently crushed her against him. She felt the puff of warm air first at her neck and then the familiar feel of his lips pressing against the sensitive skin. Eve trembled. How could she respond like this after only two nights with him? Especially someone psychotic like him?!
"You will come with me," he continued, there was a steel lining underneath his friendly smile that scared her. "Your grandparents will be just fine. And-"
If it weren't for his iron hold around her, she would have shoved away from him, instead, she tilted her head back and shot him a scathing look. "And all for the low price of you getting to fuck me at your beck and call, right?!"
Like a striking snake, his hand wrapped around her throat. Too stunned to move, Eve stood perfectly still in his grip and stared up at him with wide eyes.
"Exactly," he growled, before pressing his lips roughly against hers. "If I didn't think about you every fucking minute of my day, then we wouldn't be here. Every day last week I spent it thinking about you only to find out you were just sulking in bed day after day."
"I wasn't sulking," she managed to whisper.
Dimitri's eyes softened and his hand dropped away. Stepping back he reached for something on her nightstand. "This will work out for the both of us, sweetheart," he explained steadily. "Your family gets what they want and I get to see your pretty face morning, noon, and night," he finished, slipping the gold pair of glasses onto her face.
With no choice but to meet his gaze, Eve swallowed under the cool heat of his eyes. His fingers were still framing the back of her ears where he slipped on the glasses. The warmth from his fingertips pulsed through her. There was a madness to this man. Something not right at all. He stared down at her with a need that terrified her. No one ever looked at her this way before.
Desperate, Eve tried to think. She needed to delay going with him somehow. She needed to get him to leave or something, anything to buy herself some time so she could think. "I can't go with you right now," she rushed out.
Dimitri's brow lifted.
Eve hurried to explain. "I…I have to g-go over to my grandparents’ house for dinner," she lied. "They are expecting me."
Dimitri smiled even as his blue eyes darkened. With his hands still framing her face, he traced his fingers down the sides of her neck until he cupped her shoulders. "I have heard every call and read every text on your phone for the past two weeks, my terrible little liar." He explained with a barely concealed warning in his tone. "Your grandparents aren't expecting you until Sunday."
Eve paled.
"But I'm glad you brought this up." He let out a sigh as he gently brushed one of her curls over her shoulder. "I don't like to be lied to. I want us to trust each other and we can't do that if you try to lie to me." His softly spoken words seemed to snake around her throat and squeeze. "If you ever try to lie to me again, Eve, I’m going to take you back to that room you begged me not to use that first night and I will spend hours teaching you the fine line between pleasure and pain."
Eve opened her mouth but no sound came out.
"Tell me you won't lie to me again," he commanded softly. Something dark passed over his eyes as he stared down at her.
Somewhere in her mind, she could hear the unmistakable clang of a cage door shutting.
A tear ran down her cheek as she managed a nod and a faint reply. "I won't."
Pulling her close to him, Dimitri reached for her glasses and pushed them up onto her head. Leaning down he placed a soft kiss on both cheeks, wiping away her tears before placing a kiss on top of each eye.
Instinctively, Eve tilted her head back knowing what he expected, and waited for his lips to cover hers.
