Dimitri didn't respond, he just stared at her with that infernal unreadable look he had when he was being a jerk. Seeing that he had no intention of answering, she read the document and froze. It was a marriage license. The license was almost complete, with every section filled except for one—the spot where her signature was meant to be.

Her words were hardly audible. "It was real?"

"Do I need to invite the priest again to perform the rites once more? Maybe this time you two can be eye to eye as we consummate our vows." His voice was bright, but in a dangerous sort of way, and she knew the demented man meant it.

Eve recalled the man's red face behind the blindfold that night and shook her head. Turning back to the paper, she picked up the heavy metal pen on the desk and shakily scrawled her signature. Dimitri slid the paper back toward him and folded it up before stuffing it into one of his desk drawers.

They were really married now? A dam of emotions broke inside of her releasing a surge of emotions. Eve couldn't decide whether she should laugh or cry.

"Dimitri?" she said hesitantly.

Walking around the desk, he came over and grabbed her gently by the hand and guided her to stand. Leaning on the edge of his desk, he pulled her between his legs and wrapped his arms around her waist.

"Mmm," he intoned, wanting her to ask her question.

Lifting her hands, she ran her fingers through his silken hair, marveling at the gold and bronze strands. "Weddings are…a very big deal to Filipinos," she began slowly unsure how to phrase her question. "And…I'm not sure if my grandparents would…" Eve had to look away from his piercing blue eyes as she tried to politely say her grandparents would disown her if they found out they got married without them.

A wolfish grin spread over Dimitri's lips. "You mean your grandparents wouldn't like the idea of our beautiful and intimate ceremony?"

Eve leveled her gaze at him and pinched his cheek. "No, they wouldn't," she told him pointedly.

Tightening his arms around her, Dimitri buried his face between her breasts, muffling his next words. "Then we will just have to have a real ceremony."

A warmth spread through her chest and a huge smile broke over her face. Dimitri looked up, shock passing through his eyes before being replaced by a deep satisfaction. Hugging him closer, Eve kissed him deeply. She only pulled back when she felt his familiar hands slip underneath the waist of her lounge pants.

"No," she shook her head, laughing. "You know it's movie night tonight. Ricky will be here any minute."

Tonight, they were supposed to be watching a new movie that had just come out in theaters. Of course, Andrey said he obtained a copy of it and would bring it over tonight. All of them, including Dominic and maybe even a few of the enforcers, were going to pile around the huge living room and watch it on the massive projector screen that dropped down from the ceiling.

"Fuck the movie," Dimitri growled as he pulled up her shirt, revealing her bra.

Eve smiled as he groaned again. She was wearing one of her lace bras that showed the outline of her nipples against the sheer fabric. For some reason, it was Dimitri's favorite. His pupils dilated as he took in the sight and a shiver ran through her body. She had seen the look enough to know she had to get away now or she wouldn’t have the opportunity later.

Tugging down her shirt, she wiggled out of his hold and crossed the room. "Movie night and then-"

"Fucking?" He clarified with a growl.

Eve was halfway out the office door when she turned and gave him a coy smile. "Maybe."

The look of unholy challenge glittering in his eyes was the last thing she saw before she quickly shut the door.

The rest of the day seemed to float by as she prepared for the movie party. Each minute, her eyes seemed to be drawn to the diamond ring on her finger. The massive square diamond was surrounded by little diamonds all on top of a silver band. Eve never had a real diamond in anything before. Even in high school when diamond earrings were all the craze Eve could only ever afford fake ones. Looking at her ring, she shook her head; she never wanted to find out how much it cost.

By the time Ricky arrived, both Dominic and Dimitri were dressed in casual lounge pants and t-shirts sitting on the couch.

Eve smiled at Dominic as she handed him a huge bowl of popcorn. "I don't think I can ever get used to you not in a suit."

Dominic chuckled deeply before grabbing a huge handful of popcorn.

"Where's Andrey," Dimitri asked Ricky, not looking up from his phone.

Ricky checked his own phone with a frown. "He texted a second ago telling me he was on his-"

But before Ricky could finish his sentence, the tranquility was shattered.

Gunfire erupted from outside toward the front of the house, punctuated by shouts in Russian and another muffled language she couldn't understand. Time seemed to slow as she turned to Dimitri, but he was already moving. Standing up with a gun in one hand, he was shouting something in Russian to his men even as his other hand found her and shoved her to the ground. Through the flurry of angry words, she heard Dominic's name.

Panic surged through her veins. Eve flinched from her position on the floor with each crack of gunshot in the air. It was inside the house!
