"You have nothing to be jealous of," she whispered, letting go of his hair and running a soothing hand over the tender scalp. "You're such a handful, how could I ever have the time to think of anyone else?" she smiled.
Something moved across his expression that she couldn't decipher before it was quickly masked with an evil smile.
"To make it fair, how about you take a video of me?" He offered as he moved down the bed to between her legs.
"No don't," she wailed, laughing, trying to grab him by the shoulder, but the man ignored her, giving her little choice in the matter.
Chapter 28
Todaytheywereinthe pool. Earlier when Eve woke up, she was surprised to see Dimitri beside her in bed leaning back against the headboard typing away on a laptop.
When she asked why he was home instead of the hotel, he told her, "I can't work my men every day with no breaks. Dominic and Andrey are getting the next few days off. That means more time for you and me."
His words carried a veiled implication, but she surprised him and smiled at him sleepily, retrieving her glasses from the nightstand. "Perfect timing. I've been staring at the pool ever since you moved me in here. Want to try it?"
An hour later they were wading in the pool under the shade away from the bright sun. Wearing a pair of dark blue swim trunks emblazoned with a repeating Dior logo, Dimitri lounged against the side of the pool, his arms spread out along the concrete ledge.
Dimitri eyed her as she tried to push back her soaked hair. Eve didn't need a mirror to know that her curls were getting unruly. Coming closer to the edge, she could feel the weight of his gaze on her and glanced at him. His sapphire eyes reflected the blue water making them brighter than ever. Tracing over her like a caressing touch his eyes took in her wild hair and wet face before dropping to her chest just above the water. The black one-piece was ancient, a suit she had gotten in college on sale. At one point it had been a conservative fit on her, but now with the extra weight it fit her curves like a glove and squeezed at her breasts until they were practically spilling out from the top.
Eve warmed under his scrutiny. His unwavering stare stripped away her insecurities and somehow painted her in shades of perfection. Unable to withstand the weight of his stare, she looked away.
"You've hardly used the credit card," Dimitri said, causing her to blink in confusion.
Looking at him, she caught the smirk pulling at the side of his lips. With his arms on the ledge of the pool and his wet whiskey blond locks pushed back, again he reminded her of a model.
Focusing back on his words, Eve frowned. "What? Yes, I have. I put five grand on it the other day for my first semester."
Dimitri made a dismissive sound.
Baffled, she stared at him with her mouth open. "Just what were you expecting?"
"More than that," he sighed heavily, clearly disappointed in her ability to spend. "You have a handful of clothes, hardly any jewelry, your phone is old, your car is even older. Hell, buy something for the cat at least."
Well, now she felt like a loser. Making a face at him, she crossed her arms over her chest. "Well, I'm sorry for not living up to your-"
Like an involuntary reflex, his eyes fell back down to her cleavage and she gave him an exasperated look before uncrossing her arms. Unapologetic, Dimitri grinned before reaching out and tugging her arm until she was pressed against him. Reaching for his phone on the side of the pool he tapped the screen a few times before showing it to her. "This is just one of my accounts."
Eve could hardly compute what she was looking at. Surely that was not a real number. There were commas in it. Not singular, but plural! "Wha…what the…" she sputters.
Standing behind her, Dimitri sandwiched her between the pool wall and himself. She jumped at the feel of his stubbled cheek nuzzled against her neck. "Whatever it is you need, more importantly—want.Just get it," he whispered hotly in her ear.
Turning his arm, Eve lifted her chin and leveled him with a suspicious look. "Is all of that really your money? Help me understand." How could someone have that much money just sitting there? Yes, she knew he was a criminal and she knew he worked for a powerful organization but this…this was just mind-boggling. "What keeps someone in your…organization from just taking all of that money and running away?"
His amusement faded away, replaced by something raw and serious. "Because the organization I work for is more powerful than you can imagine. If they wanted to, that money could disappear in a blink of an eye. The hotel would be under a new manager and I would find myself in a very different situation."
Her thoughts raced at that. Lazily, she traced her fingers over the black snake on his arm. "Doesn't that scare you?" she finally asked.
Dimitri's smile was thin and sharp. "Fear is something I had to abandon years ago if I was going to survive."
Eve knew there was more. He had told her snippets before about the dark, painful past. It filled him with heartache that simmered beneath the surface, festering like a wound. Maybe it was the look in his stark blue eyes silently holding her and the rest of the world at bay, commanding them not to get too close. Or maybe it was some sort of irrational, idiotic primitive feminine need inside of her that demanded she try and heal this man. Either way, she found herself reaching out to him, draping her arms over his slick shoulders and encircling his neck.
In a quiet voice, she asked. "Can we go upstairs?"
His eyelids lowered so that only a small sliver of the bright sapphires were visible. His hands at her waist tightened, pulling her to him until her chest was pressed against his. "Yes," he growled against her lips.
One day, she would look back on the number of times he picked her up and carried her up the stairs like she was nothing. She would really examine either this man's strength or how she truly perceived herself, but that time wasn't now. Now, she focused on the softness of the sheets hitting her skin as he laid her down, or the way he gently peeled the wet suit from her body. As much as she wanted to despise this villainous man, she knew a secret part of her would never forget the way his pupils dilated as he revealed her body. No one ever looked at her that way. Dimitri gazed at her with the intensity of a man deprived as if her body held the key to his salvation. Never before had she felt such an overwhelming sense of her own beauty than in the grip of his stare.
Opening her arms, she silently beckoned him to her, even as the small voice of her pride screamed at her in the back of her head. She happily ignored it as Dimitri's burning body settled over hers. Any cool moisture from the pool had long since evaporated from their hot bodies as they moved together against the sheets. Opening her legs, Eve smiled into his kiss as he let out a pleased groan. Slowly, he pushed himself inside of her and Eve closed her eyes at the full feeling.
