Her hand trembled as she reached for the spray cleanser and a towel. Just the thought of them eventually trying to shove their fat cocks into her made her nervous and wet at the same time. Wiping up the counters and putting the dishes into the dishwasher, she was bending down to put in the detergent capsule when the dull pain in her ass gave her pause.
"Ugh," she groaned. "I can't take it anymore," she grumbled bending at the knees instead of the waist to insert the detergent tab into the machine. With a decisive snap of the machine door, she turned around as it began to rumble to life. "I don't care, I'm taking this damn thing out now."
Today she thought she had been so clever. Getting up earlier than normal, Sapphire had thought she had escaped having to wear the plug today. She had even laughed to herself about her escape as she served customers their orders. Of course, she learned the hard way she celebrated too soon. Joel had found her just before he and Hayden were leaving for the bar. He had taken her to the bathroom to insert the evil piece of silicone despite her protests.
Now the damn thing was hurting.
The jingle of the front door's bell made her freeze. A lance of pure fear speared through her heart and stopped her breath. The café was closed. She had turned the sign and locked the door just a few minutes ago.
Pushing back the fear, Sapphire stepped cautiously to the side of the counter so she could peer over the tops of the swing doors.
She was just about to call out aHellowhen she saw the familiar dark hair and piercing eyes come into view. Sapphire deflated against the counter with her hand on her chest.
"Vic," she breathed in half accusation and relief. "What are you doing here?"
Stepping through the pair of swing doors that separated the kitchen from the now dark café, Vic gave her a wicked little smile at her obvious relief it was him.
"Has Finn already left for the day?" he asked, his eyes sweeping past her around the large kitchen, ignoring her question.
Frowning slightly, Sapphire stood up straighter, the fear in her chest completely dissipating now. "Yeah, she left a little early today. She has a date. But you still didn't answer my question. What are you doing here? Or better yet how? I just locked the door."
His dark brows rose in cool amusement as he pulled a set of keys from his pocket and jingled them in answer. "I used to live here, remember."
Sapphire looked away. It was hard looking at Vic for so many reasons. One being that the man looked so good it was physically painful to even look. Today he wore his silken hair down in a shining ebony curtain around his shoulders. Even under the kitchen lights, the glossy hair gleamed around his strong jaw and structured face. Self-consciously she wanted to reach up and touch the curls gathered in her ponytail. She knew damn well hers wasn't nearly as shiny as his was.
It was also hard to look at him due to the scene between him and Garrett. In a roundabout way, he admitted to having feelings for her. Sapphire wasn't sure how she was supposed to look at him now.
"I haven't heard from you in three days." There was a determined glint in his eyes and a hard set to his mouth. "Not a single text," he whispered, stepping closer to her.
Sapphire fought the urge to back away from him as he stopped to stand only a few feet away. The large kitchen suddenly felt very small and intimate. The back door was closed and the blind was pulled down on its window. No one could see into the kitchen from the front no matter how they stood in front of the outside window and the long privacy windows that ran along the far wall were too far up for anyone to see through. They were all alone in here or maybe it was better to say she was all alone with him. Because she was starting to feel a little cornered with the man.
Ignoring her increasing heart rate, Sapphire fiddled with the edge of a dishcloth lying on the counter and tried to inject a bit of calm into her voice as she answered. "A lot has been going on in the past few days,"
"Like what?" he pressed.
Was he serious? She cast him a blaming look. "You know what."
A smile curved the hard line of his mouth. "Oh, you mean the fact that Hayden is angry because I've fallen for you, too?" he said matter-of-factly.
Her world seemed to stop and all she could do was stare up at him. "Don't say that," she whispered.
He couldn’t say that. He couldn't just say something so serious, so plainly like that. Didn't he know the pure joy and indescribable pain his words caused her or did they have no effect on him? Were they simply words he used with women all the time?
Sapphire's eyes searched his face, noting the hard line of his smirking lips and the darkening of his gaze. There was a sudden dangerous stillness about him that made her swallow in fear.
"Why not? It's true." His voice was casual and light, completely at odds with the changing aura emanating from his large form.
Sapphire's breathing increased. She wanted to look away from him, to step back but she couldn't. She was caught in his stare like a field mouse trapped in the hypnotic gaze of a viper.
She shook her head. "No. You can't-"
Blessedly he released her from his penetrating stare and he looked down at his boots. With his hand in his pockets, he looked as if he was considering something. "I understand you're not ready or more accurately that you're fighting it."
They shouldn’t be talking about this. She needed to take control of the situation. Stepping back with a wince at the rubbing feeling in her backside, Sapphire held up a hand. "Vic please," she begged softly, praying he would understand her position. "Hayden will not-"
The last of his patience faded away, replaced by something raw and animal. "Fuck Hayden," Vic snapped his eyes like black fire. "Just this once think about me right here and right now," he said, pounding one hand against his wide chest as he moved around the counter toward her, "without the ever-constant fear of Hayden having a goddamn mental breakdown."
"I can't," she pleaded, stepping back again.
