Blinking at the sudden silence at the table, Sapphire looked up to see that Joel's plate was empty while Hayden and Vic's were two bites away from clearing their plates and hers was practically untouched.

"I'm fine," she lied. "I just think I feel another headache coming on." It was the truth though, even if not fully. She could feel the dull pulse in the back of her head, another headache heralding its arrival.

"That reminds me." Vic shifted in his seat leaning to one side in the chair, bumping one of his legs into her as he reached into his back jean pocket. They all watched as he produced something black from his pocket and set it on the table in front of her.

Tentatively, Sapphire picked up the black satin material and turned it over, and read the tag. It was a compression cap. Half eye mask half cap, it worked with compression, and the cooling gel packs are sewn into the material to go over the head and help relieve migraines.

"Oh wow," Sapphire exclaimed. Immensely grateful, she looked up without thinking and found herself caught in his dark gaze.

Her heart clenched at the raw emotions on his face. Need to the point of pain flickered in his gaze, just long enough for her to feel the full impact before it blinked away.

"Hey man, that's awesome," Joel's voice broke the spell and Sapphire turned to see him looking at the cap. "It says to put it in the fridge or freezer to get the gel cold. I'm going to put it in the freezer, so maybe it will be cold enough for you tonight when you want to use it."

Sapphire nodded and glanced around the table and stopped at Hayden's face. For a moment he just sat there in brooding silence, his gaze locked onto hers before sliding to Vic. She didn’t need to look to know that Vic was staring right back at Hayden, refusing to back down. Her breath caught and her nerves tingled with apprehension.

As if sensing her dread, Hayden turned back to her and gave her a warm look. "I want you to get some rest tonight. Tomorrow, I’ll call your doctor and see about getting you some different medication."

Sapphire let out a groan. "No Hayden," she whined. "The meds he gave me last time have the worst side effects. If it’s not cotton mouth it's feeling like a zombie all day or worse—I wake up and damn near a whole day has passed if I take the full recommended dose."

Hayden shook his head, undeterred in his mission. "But there may be another kind you can-"

The pulsing in the back of her head amplified. Wincing in pain, she fixed Hayden with a withering look that made him still in his seat. "Hayden," she warned very quietly. He was annoying the hell out of her right now.

Joel let out a low whistle as he came back to the table with another full plate. He didn't say anything as he tried and failed to hide the grin on his face. Hayden cast him with a hateful look while Vic let out a soft chuckle.

Shifting in the seat next to her, Vic put a hand on the back of her neck making everyone freeze. Ignoring the palpable tension in the room, Vic pressed his thumb into the base of her neck as his fingers on the other side squeezed gently.

The moan came from her mouth before she could stop it. The strange action sent chills of relief down her spine that washed away the dull aching thump in her head.

"Oh my god," she groaned. Instantly she remembered him doing something similar to this in the hospital. It had felt good then, but she had been too preoccupied to fully focus on its effects. But now, dear Lord, now, it felt amazing.

"What the fuck are you doing?" Hayden seethed on the other side of the table.

Even Joel stilled with a fork of steak halfway to his mouth. His blue eyes flicked between her face of pure bliss and to Vic. "I too am interested in just what the hell you're doing." His voice was quiet but she could see the intensity in his gaze that made her stiffen all over.

Unfazed by them, Vic continued, adding a little more pressure in reply to her tenseness. Sapphire's eyes nearly rolled back in her head. Holy fuck, it felt so good.

"You guys remember that chick, Karla, I used to date, right? The one with the long straight black hair and had that little green SUV."

Neither man said anything but a look of recognition crossed their features. Sapphire couldn’t help but stiffen again, this time at the mention of Vic dating. Images of Vic kissing some beautiful girl with long silken black hair popped up in her mind like a plague. She did not like it.

Vic continued. "Well, she used to get really bad migraines and I used to do this to her. She said it helped a lot."

A very juvenile part of her wanted to slap his hand away at that. He just made the images in her head ten times worse. She imagined him and the beautiful girl cozied up on the couch in his living room back on the farm. She could easily see Vic standing behind the couch and massaging the stupid girl just as he was massaging her now. Cruelly, Sapphire's mind showed his touches escalating into kisses until it turned into more than just a massage.

Annoyed by her thoughts and even more so by the pain they caused, Sapphire sat up straight and tried to pull away from his touch.

Standing up, Vic stepped behind her. She could see Hayden's eyes light up with rage just before she felt the strong press of Vic's hands once more.

"Oh Lord," she moaned before dropping her head to her folded arms on the table.

"Okay, watch and learn," Vic instructed and she could feel Joel and Hayden come to stand behind her.

Step by step Vic showed them how to touch her. At what exact pressure to press and where. In minutes she was reduced to a boneless pile of unladylike groans of pleasure.

With hardly any energy to fight, Sapphire allowed Joel to pull her to her feet from her chair and pick her up like a doll. She could feel her ponytail sway behind her as he carried her to the couch and propped her up on the long sectional portion. Admittedly, her head did feel better.

"Here you go, darlin’," he said, kissing her on the lips before stepping back. "We'll remake you another plate and you can take your pills afterward so that when we leave for the bar you can just go to sleep for the night."
