Vic grinned at that and stopped at the swinging double doors that led to the kitchen. "I think I can pretty much guess what house Sapphire would pick."
"Oh yeah, I think the Gryffindor versus Slytherin debate may have gotten a little heated last I heard," Julie smiled before turning to fulfill an order.
Going through the kitchen toward the open back door, Vic stopped at the screen-door and looked out into the bright, fenced-in backyard. Off to the side next to a covered grill and a small locked shed was the large above ground pool. Vic remembered the day he helped build it with Joel and Hayden. The crazy idea had been Joel's, of course, and cost a small fortune to fill but it had been fun. Now, he couldn't remember the last time any of them had used it.
Vic pushed the creaking screen door open and stood on the concrete step and looked at the pool's sole occupant. Leaning against the pool wall with both of her arms folded beneath her head like a pillow, Sapphire half floated half rested against the pool with her eyes closed. Vic watched her mouth move to the music coming through her headphones and could hear the soft musical notes of the song she sang.
Vic shook his head with a frown. Of course, her voice would be beautiful. Just like everything else about this temptress, her voice was captivating and had the power to lure a man into dangerous waters.
Stepping forward he purposely dragged his shoe across the pavement. The sound instantly alerted her.
Brown eyes popped open and she turned lazily to look up at him. A slow smile spread across her lips and she shifted in the water.
It was at that moment Vic realized he made a mistake.
Sapphire stood up in the pool and Vic watched with an inward groan as the emerald green bikini top revealed itself from the cerulean depths that hid it previously. Her hair, which was partially wet where it hung in the water, clung to her skin as she stood.
Vic looked away.
"Hey," she drawled happily, oblivious to his torture. She pushed her headphones to hang around her neck. "What are you doing here? I thought you were going to work out with the guys?" she asked looking meaningfully at his gym sweats and fitted shirt.
For the briefest moment, Vic could sense her eyes linger on his chest. Under her gaze, he could feel his abs clench and his pectorals jump under the feminine appreciation, but in a blink, the look was gone. Replaced by a friendly if not determined smile, Sapphire stared back at him waiting for an answer.
"Yeah, I thought I was too," he gestured to his own outfit again, some sad part of him hoping her eyes would linger on him again, but her overly bright eyes stayed firmly on his face. "But when I got there I realized I'm too tired," he lied. Remembering Joel and Hayden's plans for her something inside of him clenched in pain.
"Well, that's understandable with all the hard work you do at-"
The screen door creaked loudly behind him, interrupting them both.
"As I was saying," Finn began loudly around a mouthful of food as she held a little blue bag of cookies in one hand. "Gryffindor was and is the more superior house. Just take their sheer number of quidditch wins over that house of snakes."
Dressed in a tight black sports bra that showed off her long narrow torso and defined abs along with a pair of black and silver board shorts, Vic had to admit Finn was pretty fucking cool. Between the sharp cut of her hair and her androgynous good looks, it was easy to see how she drove the girls nuts in this town. Right now, however, it was the bag of cookies she was munching out of that held his attention.
"Finn!!" Sapphire yelled. "You were supposed to be going to the bathroom, not helping yourself to cookies! Those were for Vic."
Pausing mid-bite on her third cookie, Finn looked down at the bag of purloined cookies and back to him in comedic silence before giving him a shit-eating grin.
"You snooze you lose," Finn taunted, before loudly swallowing the cookie.
There was one breath of hushed silence between the three of them as Vic came to his decision. He smiled appreciatively as Finn's eyes slowly rounded in fear.
Too bad she was too slow to react.
Vic caught her around the neck bringing her into a headlock. Behind him, he could hear Sapphire gasp in shock even through Finn's violent cursed-filled struggle.
"Goddammit! Let me go you son of a-" Her words stopped when she felt his fist on top of her head and Vic smiled at the all over tension running through her at the realization. "Don't you fucking dare!" she growled as she tried to punch up and backward at his face.
But Vic kept his head low and ground his fist into Finn's most precious asset—her hair.
Finn howled in rage as tried to fight out of his chokehold. "I'm going to kill you!"
"Bet you won't eat my cookies anymore, will ya?" he laughed as he ducked another fist.
"Vic nooo not her hair!" He could hear Sapphire trying to hold back her own laugh.
"Just what in the hell are you two doing?" The sound of Hayden's voice caused them both to pause.
Looking up, Vic and Finn looked to see Hayden and Joel standing in the doorway staring back at them with grins.
