"Okay, knock it off," Joel groaned, apparently used to their animosity. "How about both of you leave and I’ll stay with her," he added turning toward her with ill-concealed desire.

"Yeah, how about no," Vic grumbled. With one last glare at Hayden, he strode through the doorway and into the hallway. "If anyone would have sex on my bed it would be you."

Joel shrugged unapologetically. "You're not wrong."

Sapphire was entranced by the dynamics between them. Hayden and Vic reminded her of two stags clashing their antlers against one another while Joel reminded her of a lazing nearby leopard who was annoyed at all the commotion.

Stepping back away from Hayden's hold, she gave all three of them a pointed look. "How about I just go into the bathroom and change and you guys can continue whatever this is on your own?"

She didn’t give them time to respond, much less argue, as she turned on her heel and walked into the bathroom, not caring about the ample amount of leg she was showing them.

After dressing, she found the men talking in hushed silence on the porch. She knew without even asking they were talking about what happened last night. She was just happy to see that Hayden and Vic seemed to be back to normal with each other.

After petting Krrsantan for at least ten minutes straight, she finally got into the truck. As soon as Joel closed his door, Hayden started the truck. She waved at Vic who was standing on the porch watching them. He gave her a small smile and a wave back.

Pulling out of the farm, Hayden took a right instead of going straight.

Sapphire put a hand on his outstretched arm. "You don’t have to avoid the road to the gas station just for me."

"Sweetheart, I'm doing this for me just as much you. I don’t think I can ever look at that place again." There was a dark edge to his voice.

Joel's arm around her shoulders tightened, bringing her closer to him. "I can't stop touching you," he murmured into her ear, nuzzling his trimmed beard into her neck. "When I saw you on that gurney…I thought…"

Sapphire held her breath at the tightening feeling in her chest. Why did she always want to cry around these two? She used to be stronger than this, dammit. Safely tucked between them like this, her guard always seemed to fall and all she wanted to do was bask in their attention.

Turning her head, she found Joel's lips and pressed hers to his. Like a spark on dry kindling, Joel ignited at her touch, immediately deepening the kiss.

Sapphire moaned into his mouth as he leaned over her. The feel of his tongue against hers sent her worries scattering and her body falling limp in his grip. All too soon he pulled away, his cobalt eyes dark with barely suppressed need.

The long way back took them through neighborhoods she never had reason to visit. With small frame houses and sprawling trailer parks, the residential side of Holter didn't seem as bleak as she had imagined it to be. The trailer parks seemed actually pretty decent from the outside save for a few whose trailers looked run down and surrounded by junk. It reminded her that there was still much more to learn about this town.

Not wasting any more time, Hayden maneuvered his way through the neighborhoods and down a few narrow roads until they were crossing Main Street and back into old downtown in front of their building.

Sapphire paused and blinked at the café's dark windows.

Reading her thoughts, Joel smiled softly. "Don't worry. It will be open again tomorrow. We just closed it today and gave Julie the day off because we didn’t want to have to deal with anyone today."

Hopping out of the truck on his side, Hayden carried her overnight bag. "You should have seen how many people came up to the café when the news spread."

Sapphire looked at him in shock. "Really?! Why?"

Joel put his arm over her shoulder and walked with her behind Hayden as he unlocked the café door. "Because you're the star of the town. Duh."

Sapphire snorted at that and immediately regretted it. The throbbing ache in the back of her head was slowly coming back. "Hardly," she grumbled.

Slowly, they made their way up the stairs to the loft above.

"Well, you're our star, and whatever we cherish this whole fucking town better cherish, too. How about that?" Joel informed her with a menacing smile.

Stopping at the top landing just outside Joel's bedroom door, she shook her head with an admonishing smile at the blond biker. "You're starting to sound like a tyrant gangster. I don’t want anyone in the town to cherish me. I just don't want them to shoot me."

The loud clunk of her bag hitting the floor made her jump. Turning on his heel, Hayden didn’t give her a chance to react. Wrapping his arms around her waist, he hoisted her up high against him and buried his face between her breasts, now at his eye level.

He didn't say anything, he just held her like that in silence. Replaying her last words in her head, Sapphire looked down at the top of his head with a sad smile. He was just as affected by the whole thing as she was. She wrapped her arms around his head, hugging him closer to the softness of her chest.

Hayden let out a grateful groan and began walking with her. She wasn't sure how he was breathing much less confident in where he was walking, but somehow he expertly led them down the hall and turned left into his room.

Reluctantly he let her go, allowing her to slide down to the bed. In tandem, both men worked to fulfill her every need. Hayden kneeled at the edge of the bed and pulled off her shoes while Joel propped up the pillows in the middle. Hayden went to fetch her bag with her cell phone as Joel warmed up the food Julie left for them. In a matter of minutes, she was nestled between the two men on the bed with a tray of food on her lap.
