He looks at me like he’s looking through me and not seeing me. He lifts up his hands so I can see what’s in them. He’s holding a hammer and one of the biggest nails I’ve ever seen. I have no idea what he’s thinking, but I’m starting to think I might not make it out alive.
He puts the nail in the center of my hand. Pain radiates through my body so fast and intensely, I scream and things go black.
Cain
Angel doesn’t believe that a demon’s inside of her. She doesn’t see what Jehovah has shown me. She doesn’t see her wings and halo. She doesn’t see how the devil has gotten inside of her and planted one of his demons. As an appointed demon slayer by Jehovah, I must do more than just an exorcism on the Angel. She must rise from this so all can see her glory.

Waiting has never been a strong suit of mine. Waiting while our woman could be hurt and having who knows what done to her, even harder. Ma’s trying to keep us calm and going around and making people food. She’s got the girls comforting Nicky who’s beside himself. We called her brother, and he’s on his way now. He had some choice words for us, but I don’t blame him at all. We failed her.
Shouts from Juan’s office gets everyone's’ attention. He and Samson come barreling into the room.
“The reason why he was in foster care? His mom lost her shit, tried to set his dad on fire to cleanse him of the devil. She was sent to a mental hospital and diagnosed with Schizophrenia. She’s still there. Looks like in the last year, Cain’s gone to visit her once a week.”
“He’s not been diagnosed with anything, and you know in the system they test for anything that’d bring in more money.”
Anna, who was a nurse for many years pipes up, “True, but the onset of Schizophrenia usually doesn’t happen till the person is in their mid-twenties.”
Samson adds, “He just turned twenty-five a month ago.”
“So do we have any idea where he might have taken Jane?”
“So it turns out when his mom set his dad on fire, his dad survived for a while. He was in a burn unit for a long time and when he got out, he discovered his wife did nothing but lie. Turns out, he’s Cain’s biological father, but she never put his name on the birth certificate so he couldn’t find him in the system once he had healed and was out of the hospital. His dad ended up dying in some sort of accident when Cain was sixteen. He had two different properties that he owned at his death.”
“Are they around here?”
Juan speaks up. “Yeah, one’s out near the county line that’s got a building on it. The other is a strip mall over on Oregon Way.”
“The strip mall is in a super busy location. I can’t imagine he’d take her there.”
“How far out are we from the place by the county line?”
“It’s out by the old logging road down by the river,” Samson says as he’s looking at a map on his phone.
“Alight, I don’t think we should take the bikes out there. That logging road isn’t paved and they’ll announce our arrival before we want.”
Ror pipes up “Let’s take three trucks and we can pile some of us in the back. It’s back roads from here to there. We can be there in about thirty minutes.”
“Load up what you think you might need, we leave in ten!”
I look at my brothers, my two VPS. “When we get there, we contain the fucker, but our focus needs to be on getting Jane out of there. She’s the priority. We need to lean on our other brothers to deal with him.”
Ror looks at me. “She’s everything. If she’s not okay, I don’t know if I’m gonna be able to hold back, brother.”
Feeling just like he is, I grab both him and Juan by the neck and put our foreheads together. “We’ll get her back and spend the rest of our lives showing her our love.”
In sync, we say, “Knights in shining armor till someone hurts our family. Then we release the wrath of Valhalla on those who dare to do us harm.”
“Let’s go get her, brothers. Time for Cain and whoever might be helping him to meet Hel and start their eternity in her underworld.”
We all load up in the trucks. Max agreed to stay back with Nicky to watch the clubhouse with Ma and the girls. Nicky yells out as we are loading up, “You bring her back. You bring her back to me!” Looking back as we leave the clubhouse, I see he’s got Ma giving him a hug as he waves at us.
About twenty minutes into the ride, we take a turn onto the old logging road. This is the one that Pa said was used a lot before the mountain blew, but since then has only really been used by locals and hunters. Well, I don’t think the hunters that come out here are hunting what we are. It’s time to bring down some Knights Wrath on a fucker or two.
It’s a good thing I didn’t drive, I would probably have killed us trying to get to her faster. Juan didn’t drive either. Rory needed it to focus on, so he’s driving, with Ry and Mick driving the other trucks.
When we get within a quarter mile of the property that Cain’s dad owned, we stop the trucks to get out on foot. Looking at all the brothers who are more than willing to help us get our woman back, even knowing someone’s already lost their life today humbles me. Ben getting out of the last truck shocks me. He looks at us.
