“What we need is to set up surveillance,” Haze goes on. “That’s where Diamond and the Stiletto Riders come in.”

The Stiletto Riders are an all female MC based in Saddle, Texas. They’re not 1%ers; same as the Rebels, but they are badass. Their prez, Diamond, runs a tight ship, but even they don’t get all the bad guys.

They patrol mainly south Texas starting from Houston, and I admit, they do a fucking good job. Even I can respect that.

I’m not against chicks being part of the MC, heck, Stella; a recently patched in member at the NOLA chapter, proved her worth. She got out of a set of handcuffs, disarmed an enemy, and shot another dead.

“They on the trail?”

“Not exactly.”

I rub my chin. “I’ll call Diamond.”

“No need, some of us are still useful some of the time.” He grins.

A few silent moments pass.

“I’ll rest when it’s done.”

“Famous last words.”

He’s right. I don’t mean it, not one word. There will always be someone to pay for the wrongs of others.

My job is to see that the innocent get justice.

Vigilante justice maybe, but justice all the same.

“It’s settled then.” I take another sip.

“We ride at dawn.”

I pique a brow. “It’s mid mornin’.”

“I know, I’ve just always wanted to say that.”

“Jesus fuckin’ Christ,” I mutter. “It’s way too early for this.”

CHAPTER

TWO

Erica

“Please, Mom?” My daughter, Olive, complains. “All the kids at school have phones.”

This has been a regular conversation at our table most mornings, and now Olive is almost fourteen — plus most of her friends have cell phones — she tries to convince me it’s a good idea.

“No,” I say. “Trust me when I say you’ll be thanking me when you don’t have a brain tumor from all the radiation.”

She rolls her eyes. “So dramatic.”

I smile gently. I can’t complain. Olive is a good kid.

A couple of years ago, we escaped from a bad situation. That situation being my ex-husband and the religious cult we were all involved in. My sister-in-law, Amber, was also married to the founder. The three of us escaped and the compound was eventually raided. Amber’s ex, Vincent, was imprisoned, along with her brother, my ex, Steven.

I did what was best for my child, knowing that I didn’t want her growing up in an environment where she wasn’t safe. I got sucked in, we all did.

I also got into a mess borrowing money I couldn’t pay back in order to make ends meet, and the MC got involved to buy my freedom. It’s an ordeal I think about every single day and how close I was to losing it all.
