I just couldn’t believe she was real. I’ve waited so long for her to come back into my arms. Now that she’d returned, I didn’t want to ever let her go again.

The rumble of my stomach broke my thoughts. Reluctantly, I glanced over at the digital clock on my nightstand. It was eleven-thirty. We’d slept in longer than I thought.

I slowly shifted out of the bed, careful not to wake Audrey. I pulled a pair of pajama pants up over my hips and headed out towards the kitchen.

When I went grocery shopping earlier in the week, I made sure to grab some of Audrey’s favorite foods, snacks, and bathroom necessities. I thought it’d be good to have some things around the apartment for her. I wanted her to feel welcome here. After all, this was supposed to be our place.

I put on a playlist and immediately went to work on cooking breakfast for us. In comparison to Benny, I wasn’t the best cook in the world, but I could make a mean omelet. I rememberedshe used to like hers with extra cheese, bacon and spinach - with some hash browns on the side.

I plated all the food once everything was finished cooking and poured two glasses of orange juice. Carefully, I set everything on a wooden carrier tray and carried it back into the bedroom.

Audrey was still in the same position I’d left her, sound asleep.

I set the tray down on my nightstand and took a seat beside her on the bed. Leaning down, I pecked kisses on her bare shoulder. “Audrey,” I whispered against her skin.

She stirred underneath my lips. “Hm?”

“It’s time to wake up. I made you breakfast.”

Groggily, she rolled over onto her back and stared at me through narrowed eyes. “What? What time is it?”

“A little after twelve.”

She lifted her arms over her head and stretched her weary muscles with a soft moan. “Sorry,” she whispered. “I didn’t mean to sleep so late.”

“Don’t apologize.” I smirked. “We were pretty busy last night.”

She rolled her eyes as she sat up and scooted up against the headboard.

I grabbed her plate off of the tray and started to hand it to her.

Her brow rose. “Are you sure you cooked this?” She asked as a smile tugged at her lips. “I didn’t smell anything burning.”

I pulled the plate back before she could grab it. “Don’t play with me. I’ll eat both of our omelets.”

Giggling, she yanked the plate out of my hands. “No, no! I’m starving!” Her smile lingered as she picked up the fork and stabbed a piece of the hash brown. “Thank you for making me breakfast.”

I grabbed my plate and settled in beside her on the bed. “Sure. You were sleeping like a rock, so I figured-” I stopped mid sentence to chuckle as she slapped me in my arm.

“Shut up and be happy you got some last night.”

“Oh, I am. What did you think I was giving you breakfast in bed for?”

“Even if we didn’t sleep together, I was still getting the princess treatment.”

“Oh, yeah? Why’s that?”

“Because you just like me that much.”

“Wrong. I don’t like you. Iloveyou. There’s a difference.”

Audrey’s smile grew. “I love you too,” she said around a bite of food. “And not just because you made me this delicious omelet.”

“Don’t lie. I know it’s just the food talking. I get it.”

Audrey shook her head at me.

I turned on the television to fill in the silence while we ate. Once we were finished, Audrey tried to climb out of bed to wash the dishes and clean up the kitchen. I shoved her ass right back onto the mattress.
