But she never showed any impatience or distress over it. In fact, my Linsea would be the one leading me to even more populated areas or places where thrill seeking people could get their fill of adrenaline rush. When I questioned her about it, she merely said that it was wonderful experiencing the world through my fresh eyes. She had started taking so many things for granted. Through me, she was rediscovering the beauty of the world we lived in and all it had to offer.

It turned out that my mate also loved dancing and was quite proficient at it. Saying that we took the local clubs by storm would be quite an understatement. As a former stage artist, I might have had a bit of a tendency to show off. That, too, didn’t bother my mate. In fact, her possessive pride whenever people expressed admiration for me tickled me in all the right places.

I loved belonging to this female in every way.

Every night, we would do something different, from movie theaters, restaurants, shopping malls, even casinos. For the first time, I truly experienced what it was like to be normal. No more searching for quick escapes or safe havens. No more keeping count of how many people were entering a given space for fear their emotions would overwhelm me.

At long last, I was finally starting to live.

To my great chagrin, three weeks after my discussion with Colin, Linsea had to leave on a mission. It would only last a week, but the mere thought of parting with her for even just one day felt like an eternity. Granted, it turned out to be a good test for our respective future careers. That didn’t make it any less difficult. But at least, we commed each other every day. Each time, my fingers twitched to reach through the vidscreen to touch her beautiful face. Worse still, being unable to hear the song of her soul turned out to be the most painful part of this separation. To my shock, more than once, I caught myself humming it. It couldn’t replace the real thing, but it soothed me.

I might have made a bit of a spectacle of myself upon her return. First, I arrived much too early to wait for her shuttle to land in the research center’s hangar. Second I paced and muttered impatiently to myself so much, the security guards playfully warned me that I would be fined for the repair costs of me wearing out the floor. They even offered me a bench and water—all of which I declined.

Yeah, I was pathetic, but I sorely missed my other half.

Once the shuttle entered the hangar, I nearly got myself crushed in my haste to run to it before it had finished landing. Thankfully, Linsea was the first to disembark. Otherwise, I might have barreled through the other passengers to get to her. She couldn’t decide between the very justified need to chastise me, and the urge to just rejoice in our reunion and hug me.

I took that option away from her.

I kissed her like a starving male, then hugged her so tightly and for so long that some smartass asked if we needed a crowbar to get us unstuck. I glared at him while he strutted away with a smug expression, the other passengers chuckling as they also exited the hangar. My palm itched with the urge to release a strategically placed kinetic pulse on his ass. A harmless face planting should take him down a notch or two.

My mate’s claws digging into the sensitive spot at the base of my wings wrested a weird sound halfway between a yelp and a moan as I jerked my head back towards her.

“Behave, you naughty boy,” Linsea said sternly, despite the underlying amusement in her voice. “No harming innocent people for calling you out on your excessive enthusiasm.”

“Behaving is the farthest thing from my mind right now,” I growled in a voice filled with promises.

I hadn’t meant anything by it—or at least nothing raunchy at the time I spoke those words. I merely meant that when it came to my mate, I didn’t care how people felt about how I acted. For too long, I had been denied the basic pleasure of allowing myself to feel anything. Now, I fully intended to indulge as much as possible and just live to the fullest—other people’s opinions be damned.

However, my dove’s instant arousal sent blood rushing to my groin. And now, I definitely wanted to…misbehave.

“Is that so?” she asked in a sultry voice.

“Most definitely so,” I replied in a deep whisper filled with promises.

Her arousal cranking up another notch whipped my blood into a frenzy. All thoughts of the romantic reunion I had planned faded away. It was her turn to yelp as I picked her up, chest against chest, and started flying towards the exit. She laughed, although the loveliest mix of embarrassment, lust, andamusement radiated from her as she wrapped her legs around my waist.

While the high ceilings allowed me to fly my female past the other passengers to the exit of the hangar, I was sadly forced to land to traipse the long corridors back to the elevators to the residential floors. That didn’t stop me from still carrying my mate to the amusement of the random folks who saw us.

But I honestly didn’t give a shit what anyone thought anymore.

I carried Linsea straight to our bedroom and spent the next couple of hours showing her just how much I had missed her. Then again, she reciprocated in the naughtiest ways.

After a long shower—which involved some more wandering hands—we finally went back to the kitchen where I reheated the meal I had prepared for her. We ate in a relaxed atmosphere. As we had talked every day, there wasn’t much left for her to update me about her trip. Therefore, she quickly dove into the topic I’d been feeling rather nervous about.

“Are you done with your plan for the agency?” she asked between two bites.

I shifted my wings and fiddled with the food on my plate as I gathered my thoughts.

“A lot of the administrative stuff like my office, information site, traveling, and assistant will mostly be handled by the UPO’s logistics department. I’ve already discussed many of those aspects with them and Colin. It is the agency’s operating guidelines that I mainly needed to finalize. And I’m rather pleased with what I came up with. Hang on.”

I ran to the office—that we now shared—and retrieved my tablet. Linsea watched me approach with an excitement that moved me deeply. She didn’t understand how much her support and faith in me gave me strength. With her by my side, nothing seemed too daunting or impossible. Despite that, I still felt agreat deal of nervousness as I sat back down next to her. Pushing aside my plate, I positioned the tablet between us and activated the holographic display so that we could both stare at the screen comfortably.

“Here, I’ve outlined the main points of the plan,” I explained. “Each of these points are described in more extensive detail further in the document, but this is the overview.”

She nodded with an encouraging smile. I took a deep breath and then went for it.

“First, I want to focus on pairing human partners with the primitive aliens I will work with.”
