“You okay?” I ask, wondering if she is going to faint or something.

“Why'd you kiss me?”

“To seal the deal.”

“Why won't you tell me anything about what you did this summer? I want to know!” Bridgette exclaims.

“Because nothing interesting happened. All I did was go to the beach.”

Technically it's not a lie. I did go to the beach but she doesn't know that I actually went with someone.

“Yea, right.” Bridgette rolls her eyes.

Bridgette and I have been friends since we were five. It all started when I found her stealing my bike. I left it on the front lawn the night before and then when I walked outside the next day I saw her trying to steal it.

Bridgette claims that she was just trying to make sure it wasn't her bike and after that we started fighting like two cats before I called her a liar and then she ended up crying. The next day she came by and asked me if I wanted to go ride bikes.

The rest is history.

I love Bridgette. She has been there for me for when I needed someone the most. She has seen me when I was on the brink of going down a dangerous path and I can't be grateful enough for her.

“You never tell me anything anymore.”

“Can you stop being so dramatic? I literally told you that all I did was go to the beach. You were busy all summer too. Don't think that I didn't notice.”

Bridgette's cheeks turn red and she ends up gathering her stuff before opening the car door.

I don't want to tell her that I was hanging out with Ash all summer because all he was, was a summer fling. Someone who I spent time with to experience new things.

Nothing more.

I get out of the car and she locks the door.

The school I go to is a private college that only has a select few attending. Most of the kids that attend this college are politician’s kids, celebrities, or well known figures who don't want their kids to go to the other private colleges.

It's stupid that I can't go to a regular college like USC or UCLA but Dad said that he would rather me go to this school for the best education, even though it's basically similar to other colleges around the world, just nicer looking, a little smaller than most colleges, and more expensive.

My dad, Cal Madden, is a famous lawyer. He mostly does his work in New York but often visits California for me. He is always busy so I told him that I would be fine living here by myself. I'm eighteen, about to turn nineteen. I know how to handle myself.

I chose to stay here instead of living in New York with him because I feel closer to my mom over here, but I do eventually want to live out there.

I loved New York last time I visited. I think I just still feel comfortable here because of my mom. She will be in California forever and I just want to stay here for a little longer knowing that she is close by.

Bridgette's parents are a part of some world famous company and they decided to enroll Bridgette here so that she could get the “best education”.

“You think Mr. Locke will make us do some stupid assignment again? He made us watch that stupid documentary about that one murderer who kills people in a clown suit.” Bridgette says as we walk inside Mr. Locke's classroom.

We walk past his desk and my eyes meet his. I see a glint of mischief in his eyes making me turn my head away.

“I don't know. Everything he does is stupid and unnecessary nowadays. I feel like he doesn't even try anymore,” I say in a low voice, not wanting him to hear me talk shit.

Bridgette and I sat in our seats and we put our stuff in the chairs next to us so that no one can sit there.
