I should leave her alone, give her some space.
Maybe she thinks we are moving too fast?
I look back at Jane and see her looking down at her book, so innocent looking and quiet.
Fuck that.
I start walking towards Jane and when I get close enough to her, she lifts her head so that her eyes meet mine. She gives me a small smile before looking back down at her book.
I grab her book so that she will look at me. She doesn't say anything, instead she just glares.
What the fuck?
"What the fuck?" I say, wondering why the hell she isn't fighting me. "What's wrong? Did I do something?" I ask her and tears form in her eyes. She shakes her head at me. "Jane, fucking tell me what's going on. What did I do?" She shakes her back back and forth. I bend down so that I am on my knees in front of her. I take her face into my hands and make her look up at me. "Talk to me, fawn. What's wrong?"
She lets out an uneven breath and looks at me in the eyes. "I can't-"
"Dinner's ready!" I hear someone yell and so does Jane because she removes my hand from her face and stands up.
What the fuck?
Jane grabs her book and runs out of the garden.
What the actual fuck?
I throw my shirt on that is hanging on my shoulder and then run out of the garden towards the house where Jane ran off too.
When I walk inside the dining room I see Jane sitting down in her usual spot, tears wiped but she still looks like she cried.
"Hey, brother," Andrew says as I just stand in the doorway looking at Jane. "Gonna sit down or what?" Andrew laughs and then sits in his seat.
I walk towards my seat, which is next to Jane. She avoids eye contact with me and looks at her hands.
I hear a coughing which makes me look up and see Ace with a raised eyebrow.
He probably thinks I did something.
But I didn't.
I mean I don't think I did.
I slightly shake my head and Ace just leans back in his chair and licks the inside of his cheek before looking back at Jane.
"How has everyone's day been?" Layna asks, which makes me look at her and then at Cole who is looking at Jane.
God fucking damnit.
The nerves in my stomach make me start bouncing my leg up and down.
I need to talk to Jane and see what's wrong with her.
"Landon wouldn't stop bugging me last night. I got no sleep," Thalia complains.
Who gives a fuck?
"I really think you should try the white noise, Thalia. It helps a lot," Aria says.
"Hey, can I get some tea please?" Andrew asks one of the servers which makes her nod her head and leave.
