Jane
"He won't stop throwingtantrums and I have no clue what to even do Jane," Thalia complains as she starts to look through different clothes.
Right now, Thalia and I are at the mall, shopping for Landon. She asked me to come along so that we could have some girl time, which usually means Thalia is doing all of the talking and ranting to me about whatever is pissing her off or sometimes just having a good crying session.
I feel bad for Thalia. She is a single mother and the father of her child died as well as the love of her life. She has reasons to cry and be angry at the world as well as other people in her family.
I remember Thalia the night of the gala. Her black dress was covered in blood, Alexander's. I remember wanting to ask her what happened and if she was okay, but I couldn't. That stupid tennis ball was stuck in my throat but now it's slowly getting smaller and smaller making me finally be able to talk.
I'm hoping that someday, maybe in a few months, I will finally have the courage to talk to Thalia but for some reason, I can only talk to Rowan.
Rowan.
My cheeks blush and I nip my bottom lip.
Every time I think about him my cheeks always turn red and I feel a tingle in my stomach, something I've never felt before. But I like it. It feels good to smile like that and feel those things.
I just can’t help but feel scared at the same time.
What if this feeling doesn’t last forever?
What if I end up loosing all of the progress I made since that night three years ago?
I have been staying clear of him for the past few days. That dream freaked me out and I know Rowan isn’t the one I should be afraid off but I feel the need to protect my heart and guard myself.
"I wish I could help him more and be what he needs. I feel like I'm not enough for him," Thalia says, making me break out of the trance I’m in and look at her.
She is now facing me with a sad look on her face, looking like she is about to cry.
Oh god.
I wrap my arms around her, and she puts her head in my neck and wraps her arms around me as well.
I tap my fingers on her back three times and she does it back.
I love you.
Thalia sniffles and then lets go of me to look at me. She has some tears running down her face. I lift my finger and wipe a tear off her face.
"You're my best friend. I'm always going to be here to help you with whatever you need."
Thalia smiles. "I love you." I smile back and she wipes her tears. She gets a text and looks down at her phone. Her eyes widen as she reads the text. "We need to go."
"Why?"
"Because we just need to go. Don't try to argue with me." Thalia grabs my hand and leads us out of the store. Once we get inside the car, she drives us towards the direction of my house. I thought we were going to go to her house because Rowan dropped me off there so that Thalia could take us to the mall. I'm surprised that Rowan didn't come with us because usually he would follow me around like a hawk. When we get to the house Thalia parks the car and gets out with me following behind. "You go ahead inside. I'll grab the bags."
I don't question her. Instead, I walk up to the house and unlock the door.
When I open the door I see a whole bunch of people, including my family yelling, "Surprise!"
What the hell?
"Happy Birthday, beautiful!" someone yells and then it all clicks into place.
Surprise party.
They had a surprise party for me.
