Might find a way to justify missing the flight.

But he asked me.

From the Beyond.

I roll my eyes and release my lip from my bite.

Even in death, he’s dramatic.

Chapter 51

Ethan

I shovethe letter back into the envelope.

Then I stare across the empty Visitor Center.

Fucking Jack.

My phone rings.

Mind racing, I pull it from my pocket and answer.

“Mr. Grant?”

Irritated at all this, I run my tongue along my teeth before answering. “Who is this?”

There’s a chuckle. “Jack warned me you weren’t very friendly.”

I grunt.

“There’s a new deposit in your account from Peaks Airport,” the man tells me.

“Who is this?” Suspicion rolls in my gut.

Peaks is a private airport about forty minutes from here. Where I keep my plane. Where I sometimes do charter flights.

But it never goes down like this.

“Jack hired you to fly a person to Vegas tomorrow morning. The flight plan has already been registered, and your request for time off has already been granted.” The man says it sononchalantly that it makes me grind my teeth. “When you land, there will be a car waiting for you to use.”

“Who. Is. This?” I grit out each word.

He’s talking about Tilda. He has to be.

And if he thinks I’m going to just deliver her?—

“My name is Richard. And tomorrow I’ll be reading Jack’s will. Matilda Wrightmustbe present. It’s of the utmost importance.”

I grind my teeth. Again.

“After the reading, you’ll drive her back to the airport and fly her home. If all goes smoothly, you’ll be back in time for dinner.” He hums, like we’re in some sort of accordance. “Safe travels, Mr. Grant.”

Then he hangs up.

And I lower the phone.
