I glared at Connor with a scoff, and he gently elbowed me on the side. Kevin sent a picture of his parrot, and I groaned.
“Why?”
BRAXTON
will? like we’re already besties
like a handshake away from it, but that’s happening too

I snorted. “You told him about our handshake?” I asked Connor, and a proud grin spread across his face.
“Sure did.”
Another message popped up on my screen—except it wasn’t sent toThe Mystery Crewchat. It was private, just for me.

My pulse stumbled. I sucked in the inside of my cheek, glancing at him. His phone was in his hand, but he was looking at me with an intensity that forced the air out of my lungs.
“Careful,” I mouthed. “It will look like you care.”
He cocked his head and raised a brow at me, while my own eyes narrowed. Our little game of always just analyzing each other.
“I do care,” he mouthed back with a lazy grin, making the butterflies storm in my stomach.
