You’d thinkeveryone on thebus would be embroiled in hushed discussion after witnessing our curbside snog earlier that morning, but as we made the four and a half hour trek from Mackay to Townsville, my head resting on Lucas’s shoulder, Baz flying high in his new carriage, the atmosphere couldn’t be more lively.

“Slick, get out of the loo. You’ve been in there long enough.” Matt rapped on the toilet door a second time.

“Off fuck,” Noah shouted back.

Matt groaned. “What the hell is he doing in there?”

“Do you really want to know the answer to that?”

“No, Cori, I don’t. What I want to do is take a piss.”

“Check out how far back these chairs recline,” Josh said, as he lowered one of the twenty double, leather recliner seats. “Cor, jump on and take a ride.”

I perked up. “Don’t even think about having sex on this bus. Bertha II is strictly PG rated.”

I settled back into my snuggly position when Lucas’s lips grazed my ear. “You sure about that?”

“Yes.”

“Just checking.”

“My suite, on the other hand, is R rated.”

“Does this shit heap go any faster?”

I blinked. “Shit heap?”

He growled, and it made me giggle.

“Excuse me, Helena.” I sat upright when I noticed Cori standing beside me.

“Hi, what’s up?”

“Do you have a minute? I wanted to show you the picture I think we should use for the billboard you wanted Patsy to arrange.”

“Sure.”

She handed me her camera, and displayed on the LCD screen was a picture of all five guys standing in a V shape, each of them wearing a pair of jeans that rode low on their hips, their chests bare, their arms behind their back. Josh stood front and center, his expression mean but inviting. Patsy and I flanked them, both of us wearing feminine pantsuits with our arms crossed over our chests, our expressions: powerful. I smiled. We looked badarse.

“Oh wow! This shot is amazing, Cori.”

“I thought you’d like it.”

“Like it? I love it.” I showed Lucas.

“Nice, Cor.”

“Thanks, Dimps.”

“Have you shown Patsy yet?”

“No. I wanted to get your approval first.”

“Patsy,” I called out.

She looked my way, so I motioned she come over.

“You rang,” she said, in the low voice of Lurch from the Addams Family.
