Lucas scooped me into his arms as I went to limp past him. I squealed and held on for dear life.

“What are you doing? Put me down.”

“Crikey!”

“Oh my God. I’m gonna kill y—”

“Hi, Dimps. Hi, Helena.”

I looked over Lucas’s shoulder to find Cori, a curious smile on her face.

“I thought I spotted you two through my camera lens.”

I dug my nails into his shoulder.

“Crike—”

“Hi, Cori. Lucas was just—”

“Carrying Helena,” he said, unperturbed while finishing my sentence.

“I can see that.”

“I hurt my toe last night,” I explained. “And I can’t walk—”

“Boss lady … Dimps, fancy seeing you both here.” Josh stopped behind Cori, his large hands settling on her shoulders. She smiled but shrugged them off.

“Good morning, Joshua. Lucas was just—”

“Carrying you?”

“Yes, to the golf buggy,” Lucas said.

“Golf buggy?” Brad joined the conversation and performed three-sixty, searching around us. “Where’s the green? We should all play a round.”

“No,” I said, gritting my teeth. “I hired a golf buggy because I can’t walk—”

“Dimps, why the hell are you holding Helena? Put her down,” Matt demanded, as he, too, joined the group.

“It’s okay, Matt. I hurt my toe. I can’t walk. Lucas was just carrying me back to our golf buggy.”

“Golf buggy?”

“Yes, A golf buggy.” I huffed and closed my eyes, something I’ve done a lot since buying this damn revue, and realised I should just give up trying to explain. “Lucas, you can either put me down and help me walk or take me to the buggy.”

He winked. “To the buggy, we go.”

He carried me to the exit where Gary was waiting while smiling and waving to children as they walked by.

“Crikey!” he said with a laugh as he watched us approach. “You’ve multiplied.”

I almost rolled my eyes.Fucking crikey.“Yes,” I said, climbing aboard the buggy. “Seems I’ve picked up a few strays.”

Lucas sat beside me and rested his arm across the back of our seat.

“Well, I’ve only got room for three more, so two of you will have to walk.”

Cori and the guys all looked at each other then launched for the spare seats as if they were playing a game of musical chairs. Surprisingly, Cori snagged the front seat next to Gary, but Noah and Brad wrestled with each other and ended up losing the reversed back seat to Josh and Matt.
