“Yeah. it looks like they are identical. See there’s only one sac and one placenta. It’s pretty rare.”
“Identical?” Brooklyn repeats. I think she’s in shock.
“This does put you in a higher risk category. Dr. Stone will want to talk to you in her office again in a moment to explain what that means, but women carry and deliver twins all the time. We’ll take good care of you here. Don’t worry.” She pulls a string of photos from the machine and hands them to me. “Congratulations. I’ll give you a minute. Just go over to Dr. Stone’s office across the hallway when you’re ready.”
She leaves the room and shuts the door behind her.
“Twins?” Brooklyn says again. I’m just staring at the photos. The tech has added labels and arrows which say “Baby One” and “Baby Two.”
I blink a few times, not sure if any of this is real.
Brooklyn finally looks up at me.
“Twins?” she says again.
“Are you okay?” I ask.
She takes the photos from my hand and studies them. Her hand is over her mouth and then a smile grows across her face.
Relief washes over me, and I smile back at her.
She looks back up at me and says, “This is going to be fun.”
