Max shook his head, smiling smugly as we stayed put. "Because you’re cute when you’re flustered.” He resumed our journey to the vehicle, going only a few feet before he reached the passenger side door and looked at me over the roof. “Relax, I already met your brother. Lucas seems nice."

"Did he manage to say five words without Chase going on and on?" Not that I minded too much if the subject involved Lucas. But now I wish they’d had time to get to know each other better.

They were already the two most important people in the world to me and that was before Max and I became mates. This would be the first time we all spent time together, me, Lucas, and our respective partners.

"We’ll like each other,” Max said as he buckled his seatbelt. “And if we don’t, we still both likeyou. We both love you."

Huh. That helped me relax and they’d forgive us for being late. So being later wouldn’t hurt anything. I kissed him slowly, savoring his fresh breath and the stolen moment.

When we finally pulled apart, I almost put the key in the ignition when he spoke.

"Is it okay if I take your last name?"

"Huh?" I missed, the key hitting somewhere on the dashboard and falling from my fingers.

Max picked the keys up and handed them to me.

"I used Gideon Robinson for my name when I arrived." Robinson Lane was the street with the abandoned restaurant. “Doesn’t really feel right. So is it okay if I go by Max Temple?”

"Uh…uh…wha…?" I struggled to find words.

"Or I could stick with Davis."

"No, yes, no. Whatever you want."

"Are you aware that all those answers were different?" Max pointed out, unable to help smiling at me getting flustered again.

"Sorry. Temple is cool.” More than that. If it’s cool with you."

"Really?"

I grinned. "Absolutely."

Putting the key in the ignition and turning on the engine, the car backed up as a huge smile formed on my face. Max and Lysander Temple had a lunch to get to.
