CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
LEXI
––––––––
Right now, I need mybrain to stop working and to let my body take over.Because I’m not going to say no to spending a night, or what’s left of tonight, with Mason Kingsley.
I’d spend forever regretting it.
I want this.
I want him.
At least he’s stopped accusing me of being some gold digger, although in return he’s turned into some insane alpha protector, which...is hot as fuck.
Emily is up to something, and I can’t help wondering if she planned this. The wink she gave me as they left made it look as if I’m in on her plan.
Another plan.
“What was that?”Mason asked when he saw it.
“I don’t know.Emily being Emily.”I shook my head and served someone else.
This time, I’m not involved in her little scheme.
Mason sat all night watching me like he was my bodyguard, and it scared a lot of patrons off.Not that I was sorry when Mr.Maroon left.
Sam warned me to get my boyfriend under control.
“Oh, he’s not my boyfriend,” I replied.“Just some overprotective friend.”
“Well, I don’t need him scaring off paying patrons, so tell them to stay home.”
“That guy was pretty drunk.”I shrugged.
“I get to decide that. You need to keep your mouth closed and the drinks flowing. And your tits out.Understand?”
Asshole.
He was lucky Mason didn’t hear him.
I didn’t want to upset my new boss because I needed to ask for the following weekend off for Emily and Seb’s wedding.
If Sam says no, I plan to just quit.I’m leaving straight after the wedding. But every day I work, and all the tips are helping to keep my bank balance from going into the red.
Tell him you quit.
Mason has no idea what it feels like to be unemployed or poor.I’m going to tell him he can’t come back to the bar.
He puts his hand in the small of my back and guides me into the elevator where he presses a single button.
“Is there only one floor?”
