Luca sat down and smoothed his suit jacket.
“I think perhaps Tesio needs to come home, Don Rossi. Perhaps someone a little less emotional should be put in the position with the club instead.”
That cunt. I’d rip his fucking lungs out. I’d barely clenched my fists, and the Don spoke again, silencing everyone, and taking a little of the tension from me, only a little, though, because he still had the power to take away everything.
“Tesio is doing a fine job right where he is. And I’m inclined to leave things in situ for now, but if that police officer keeps persisting, she will be taken care of, Tesio. We can’t afford for her to learn who you are, and how you’re connected to us.”
I swallowed hard, fighting a surge of panic at his words, because what were the chances that she’d stop fucking with the club?
“With respect, Don Rossi, police interference is just a part of club life. They nose around, they get told repeatedly that we’re just motorcycle enthusiasts, and they move on. She has nothing, and she won’t find anything. She’ll get bored. They all do. Trust me on this. This is just how it works.”
He lifted the left eyebrow at me. That’s the dangerous one. The one that says if he raises it again, someone dies.
“Boss, I’ve got this, I promise. You won’t even hear of her again. She’s nothing. Nobody. Old news.”
“We’ll be watching, Tesio. Don’t let us down, or she dies.”
FUCK.

The next time Ibumped into Grease, it was at the courthouse, which is also a great place to get married. For example, as I approached the building, my hate for Grease having grown hour by hour and day by day since he stood me up, and cemented like a brick in my stomach, anyway, who should come out of the doors, but the very club I had tried to avoid while I licked my wounds.
Clearly their club president, sorry, interimpresident, had just tied the knot with his pretty blue and purple haired girlfriend, and there were just a few of the club members with them.
They were the last people I expected to see here, at least not without them being suited and on trial for something, anything I could make stick. I hated the fact that my heart beat a little faster at the sight of him, tall, tanned, and so fucking sexy I could cry. How could he have just given me that one night and then discarded me like that? All he had to do was not tell me to come back. Why tell someone to come over and then just ditch them? It made me feel cheap. Used. And yet unwanted. Tossed aside like trash. Asshole.
I watched him interrupting their kisses, and slapping Micro on the back in that ultra violent way men seemed to, and nearly causing their heads to smash together.
“Watch it, prick!”
I couldn’t help myself, because every time I pushed him to react, I could get us closer to me throwing the damn book at him, and making him pay for hurting me.
“That’s assault.I mean, technically you could charge him for assault.”
They all turned to stare at me, like I was the last possible person they expected to be at the actual courthouse, where police were often milling around, because, you know, law.
“Don’t remember inviting PC Pain-In-My-Ass,” Grease said, casually putting himself between me and his club president.
“It’s public property, and I’m an officer of the law. This is the courthouse too, as you well know, Grease.”
He looked confused by how much attitude he was getting from me, which just proved how little he cared about how he treated women, because he caused this anger, this hatred from me. Did he think we just walked it off when we were dismissed like that? Heartless bastard.
“Why you gotta talk to me like that, baby? You want my cock, just step on up. I’m easy, I promise, as long as you’re not planning to walk on me with stilettos on.” The snarky bastard laughed then, winking at me. “Well, probably not, anyway.”
Sophie leaned closer to Micro, and out of my sight behind Grease, and suddenly he was crashing forward and almost taking me down with him. His grip on my arm was all that stopped me from landing on my ass, with him on top of me, and I swear, a woman shouldn’t regret something like that as much as I did. He didn’t even want to fall on top of me? That asshole, thinking he could just reject me that easily.
I twisted my arm out of his grip, and reached for my cuffs.
“I think that qualifies as assaulting a police officer, wouldn’t you say?”
Evers, who’d been standing silently behind me this whole time, groaned in my ear as he stepped in to back me up this time, because I think he knew if he failed me again, I’d lose my mind at him.
Grease didn’t resist as we cuffed him, that smirk ever fucking present on his face.
“I knew she was hot for my body, Pres. I’ll be back later. Save me a beer or twelve.”
As we dragged him away, and I heard one of his biker brothers mention calling that damn lawyer, I knew this was going to be another arrest that didn’t stick, but hey, if it ruined his evening, then my job was done for now. I’d keep picking away at him, destroying his life day by day, until he regretted the day he stood me up, and made a fool of me. It had been pointed out to me recently that I didn’t let people in, so why, the one time I risked it, did I get played for a fucking fool?
