Satisfied, Logan stepped back just slightly, leaving me trapped between the three of them with the cold brick wall at my back. His eyes met mine, fierce resolve glittering beneath quiet amusement. I hated that look.
“You really don’t make this easy, little mate,” he murmured, lips twitching with a faint smirk.
I glared defiantly back at him. “Good.”
Edward laughed, his cool eyes almost gleeful in their victory. “Good thing we like a challenge.”
My pulse quickened at the heat in their collective gaze, my heartbeat echoing painfully loud in my own ears.
“Whatever. Do your worst,” I dared them. I met their condescending stares with open rebellion. I’d survived brutal training, survived the murder of my brother, and I would survive this. If I got my way, they would not.
The heat in their eyes intensified and I swallowed hard, fear suddenly spiraling through me like a tornado.
Edward was the first to move, his eyes never leaving mine. His fingertips slid slowly along the column of my neck, sending a traitorous shiver of awareness rippling through me.
“Let’s have a look at you,” he said quietly, a note of anticipation sharpening the edges.
Logan watched intently, his eyes dark with desire and a hint of curiosity. His palm skimmed across my collarbone, then down, following the gentle curve of my arm.
I gulped, trying to focus on just breathing steadily. This was not supposed to happen. I’d prepared for violence, for death, but not this.
Notdesire.
CHAPTER 8
Sera
Edward’s fingers continued their exploration, tracing the line of my throat with tantalizing gentleness. My skin tingled beneath his touch, betraying me with unwelcome sparks of pleasure. My breath stuttered as he leaned in, his face hovering mere inches from mine. His gaze held mine captive, intense and searching, his expression carefully guarded.
“I can feel your pulse. You’re nervous, aren’t you?” he murmured, a hint of satisfaction edging his tone.
I scoffed, then tried to bring my leg up between his thighs, but he was prepared for that. He blocked me with his knee and pinned my legs in place with his own.
“Try that again, andyou’ll regret it.”
I snarled, baring my teeth, but he merely smiled, an icy, predatory grin that promised consequences. Then his mouth crashed against mine, his kiss possessive and demanding. Histeeth scraped across my lower lip, aquick, warning nip that sent a jolt of fear and forbidden arousal coursing throughme.
“We’re going to have to check her quite thoroughly to make sure that she has nothing else hidden,” Jamie said with a cock of his head and my gaze flashed in his direction. A growl simmered at the back of my throat, but I held it back, knowing that I was at a distinct disadvantage right now. I had to keep calm. If I was going to get out of this, I’d have to be ready to seize the opportune moment.
I wasn’t going to go down without a fight.
“Indeed,” Logan replied, his own voice thick with what I could only guess was arousal, but that couldn’t be right.
I was their enemy. I’d killed, or at least seriously injured, two of their men, and I would kill them without hesitation if I got another chance.
Yet, their touches, their expressions, and their words all told me otherwise. They didn’t see me as an enemy. They saw me as their possession, their mate.
I took a deep breath, trying to remain calm.
Edward’s mouth worked against mine, and he cupped the back of my head, holding me still. I bit at his lip, wanting to draw blood, but he was quick. His hand grasped my hair, pulling my head back as he growled, a low rumbling sound that reverberated in his chest. “We’ll need to teach you some manners.”
My heart skipped several beats. I didn’t want to be their mate. I wanted to be free, to do my duty and rid the world of their kind.I was a hunter. I was meant to protect, to defend, to kill the enemy.
Them.
I wasn’t meant to be claimed by a pack of wolf shifters.
“Stop,” I demanded, but my voice sounded weak, breathless. “Let me go. I’m not your mate. You can’t just claim me like this. I don’t want this.”
