“I’m yours.” She gasped as he squeezed her nipples.

“I love you.” He murmured as he pushed her closer and closer to climax.

It was those three words that repeated in her head like a mantra as he made love to her. First with his fingers and then with his cock. First in the tub and then again once they’d dried and found a bed to sleep in. And all through the night as he reached for her, again and again, as if he needed to reassure himself that she was still there, still his, she heard his echoing voice in her head, saying that he loved her and though she couldn’t give voice to it herself she knew that it was true.

She loved Dante Chinn. Always had. Always would. Even when she’d hated him, still she’d loved him even then. Now that they’d found their way back to each other, nothing would come between them ever again. Unless she ended up in cuffs tomorrow, which was why she kept those words locked deep inside herself for now. Because if she did have to go to prison, she didn’t want to hurt Dante again. She’d have to walk away from him, again, she couldn’t do it if she admitted out loud that she was in love with him.

So, for tonight, she made love to him. She showed him with her body. She said it without using words. And she prayed that come tomorrow their plan would work and she’d find the light at the end of this dark tunnel, that somehow, someway, she’d end up with a happily ever after like all those girls in the books she read on her Kindle, where nobody else would ever find them, where nobody else would ever know that badass Mickey Hill, hacker, activist, all around fierce feminist, was truly a romantic at heart.

“And you’re sure you worked everything out? They’re not going to come barging in here to arrest me?” Mickey eyed him nervously and Dante’s heart gave a squeeze.

God, he loved this woman. Loved her so much that he wanted to lock her up in this safe house, in the safe little sex nest they’d made together. But he knew that they couldn’t stay hidden any longer. That was why he’d talked to her this morning and convinced her that he could keep her safe and it was time to bring his boss into things.

It had taken a lot of talking and explaining and a little bit of begging but eventually his boss had agreed to bring Mickey in without pressing charges, so long as she delivered on decrypting the hard drive data she’d stolen from Keating’s computer. He smiled remembering the way Mickey had scoffed at theifhis boss had dared make.Whenwas more like it, and less than six hours later, with a delivery of some computer equipment to the house by his partner, Mickey had come through on her end of the deal.

She had cracked the encryption and delivered a truckload worth of new data for the police to use in charging Keating and the heads of NAGOR. Corruption. Conspiracy. Backdoor deals and blackmail. It was all there beneath the film of security they thought they’d put in place. Emails and bank records, contracts and recorded phone calls, it was enough to put a lot of bad people away for a very long time. Not just that, but it was enough to keep Mickey out of jail too because, as he’d learned in the last twenty-four hours, there weren’t very many people in the world that could do what she did and make it look as easy as breathing.

She was incredible. She was amazing. And most importantly, she was his and nobody was going to take her from him again, especially not his boss.

“They’re not going to arrest you.” He pulled Mickey into his arms, unable to let go of her for any extended period of time now, and kissed her soundly. “They’re going to thank you for your hard work in taking down a corrupt organization. That’s all.”

“That’s all?” She mocked playfully, her arms coming up around his neck as well, her grin nearly blinding in its brightness.

“Just another day at the office for you, isn’t it?”

She giggled, “Who runs the world?”

“Girls.” He chuckled, singing along with her and then ducking down for another kiss, “More specifically, my girl.”

“Mmm, good answer.”

She kissed him back and in that moment his life had never made more sense.

His undercover job was done. NAGOR was going to fall to pieces when its leaders went to prison. He wouldn’t have to work there anymore and report back to his supervisors. He could take a regular assignment. He could leave Undercover for a different department and he could stop lying to everyone he knew.

He had Mickey back. Finally. She was his. They could live their life together, they way he’d always wanted.

Finally, his real life could start.

A knock on the door broke them apart a moment before it swung inwards. Dante cleared his throat and stepped in front of Mickey automatically. He knew the woman coming through the door wasn’t a threat, not really, but it was instinctive to protect the woman he loved. He’d been throwing himself in front of Mickey Hill more than half his life and he had the bullet wound to prove it.

“Detective Chinn.” The woman that had come through the door stopped just in front of them where they stood in the living room, the two men behind her flanking each side and blocking the only exit, whether on purpose or simple habit, he wasn’t sure.

“Lieutenant.” He dipped his head in acknowledgement.

Lisa Hafner was yet another one of those women that was going to run the world. She’d been the youngest woman ever promoted to Lieutenant and she was making a name for herself. She was smart, determined and she didn’t take crap from any of the men in the department.

She lifted her chin, looking from him to Mickey, “Ms. Hill I assume?”

Mickey stepped out from behind his shoulder with a censoring glance before smiling at the other woman, “Yes ma’am.”

“I’m Lieutenant Hafner. It’s nice to meet you.” She extended her hand and gave Mickey a quick handshake. “We’d like to thank you for working with Detective Chinn. We’ve been trying to expose the corruption of the National Association for Gun Owners Rights for years and the information we recovered from the drive you decrypted will play a key role in our ability to bring charges against those involved.”

“Uh…” Mickey shot Dante another quick glance and he read this one easily, the hint of the smile at her lips telling him that she knew he’d been completely right about what his boss was going to say. “You’re welcome?”

His lieutenant gave a small smile of her own, “I’m told by our IT department that it’s highly unlikely anyone on our staff would have been able to decrypt that information.”
