She looks up into my eyes. Her tongue runs along her bottom lip. “Because I’m not interested in talking with you,” she says.
I can’t help but smile. Her eyes are saying one thing, and her words are saying something else.
“I don’t believe you.” I cup her face in my hand and lower my mouth until it’s almost touching her ear. “We're made for each other.”
She closes her eyes and lets out a soft groan. I kiss her cheek. She still smells amazing. Good enough to eat.
“I can’t,” she mumbles. “I promised.”
“Promised?” I say, not sure I understand what she means. “Promised who?”
A worried look flickers across her perfect face. “It doesn’t matter,” she says. "I have to go."
She tries to leave, but I grab her arm and spin her around. I know I’m causing a scene, but I don’t care. Some things in life are worth fighting over, and Eden is one of them.
“Itdoesmatter,” I growl. “Look at me and tell me we don’t have a connection? Tell me you didn’t feel something in the woods earlier when we kissed?”
“I can’t,” she says. “I can’t do this.”
I put my hand on the back of her head and press my mouth against her lips. At first, she keeps her lips closed, but then her body melts against me and she opens wide.
Our tongues collide in a passionate explosion of unrestrained joy. Like two mountain goats locking horns on the hills of Mount Killamanjaro. The big, African sun is setting behind us. A dole of doves dance through the air singing our names.
I’ve never felt happier in all my life.
“I knew you felt it, too,” I whisper.
“Oh, God,” she moans, her fingers grabbing hold of my shirt and pulling my lips down for more. “What are you doing to me?”
I kiss her again, savoring the moment. Trying to remember every single detail. Knowing that this is the exact moment my life will change forever.
I squeeze her ass and hold her body tight against me. “Come on,” I say. “Let’s get out of here.”

Eden
“Where are we going?”
Dana pulls me through the doors and into the parking lot. I must be mad. I promised Kate I wouldn’t have anything to do with this man. But I can’t help myself.
“There’s a barn just down here.”
I stop in my tracks. “A barn?” I say. “What kind of woman do you think I am?”
“I think you’re the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen,” he says, kissing my neck. “I think I’m going to explode if I don’t get you alone and naked within the next sixty seconds. I think I’ve been waiting all my life to meet you, and now it’s finally happened I never want to let you go.”
Suddenly a barn doesn't sound so bad. “You really mean it?” I say. “You’re not just saying it to get in my panties? You’re not going to love me and leave me? I’ve been hurt too many times, Dana. I don’t know if I can go through it again.”
He stops kissing me and looks me in the eyes. He runs a finger down my cheek and kisses me softly on the lips. “I’m never going to leave you, Eden. You’re my soulmate.”
“Soulmate?” I echo the words as if I’m in a dream.
Nobody’s ever said that to me before. I kind of thought it was some hokey Hallmark bullshit made up by a marketing executive so they can sell more cards. But looking into Dana’s eyes, I realize it’s not make-believe. There really was a man out there waiting for me. The other half of my heart. A person I am perfectly suited for and destined to meet.
“Alright,” I say. “But this barn better be clean. I don’t want any horse poo on my dress.”
“Hmmm...” His eyes run down my body, soaking in every inch of me. “Maybe you should take it off here. Just to be on the safe side.”
