Compared to Kaiden, it’s like they’re not even the same species.
Terry is square-looking. His nose is too big for his face. His eyes are black and soulless. Like a rat.
Maybe I just liked the gifts. I liked the attention he paid me.
It’s not easy being a big girl. Most guys just pass me over like I’m invisible. But, for a while, Terry treated me like a princess. There was nothing too good for me.
But, now I realize how much of a fool I was.
“One last chance,” Terry growls. Spit flies out his mouth when he talks. “Otherwise, I’ll blow your rich new boyfriend's head straight off his shoulders.”
I stand up from behind the bed. Kaiden motions for me to get down. But I’m fed up with cowering. “Fuck you, Terry. I Hate you. I hate your stupid face. I can’t believe I was ever stupid enough to get involved with a creep like you!”
Sirens start to wail outside. The police are close, but they’ll never get here in time.
There’s murder in Terry’s eyes, and I’ve just poured gasoline on the flames.
“You’re mine, Willa,” he growls. “Don’t you realize that, you dumb fucking bitch? You don’t walk out on me. Nobody fucking walks out on me. I'm Terry fucking Castillo. I own you. I’ll do with you as I please.”
He raises the gun and points it at my chest.
For a moment, the whole world slows down. It’s like I’ve entered the Matrix. But, I don’t see my life flash before me... I see Kaiden.
I imagine what it would be like to have him laying on top of me. His deep, soulful eyes looking straight into my heart as his cock stretches my tight, pink walls to their limits.
I see us standing at the front of a church with all our friends and family watching us. I see Kaiden slipping a beautiful gold wedding band on my finger and kissing me.
I see myself being wheeled into the hospital. My tummy is huge. A baby about to be born.
I see us old and sitting on a porch holding hands. A beautiful midsummer sunset beams its light onto our wrinkled skin as we sip wine and reminisce about the wonderful life we’ve shared together.
And then I see Terry’s finger start to pull down on the trigger.
I close my eyes, too afraid to face the final moments of my life. Wishing things could have been different. Wishing I’d met Kaiden earlier. Before Terry ruined everything.
POP!
A final gunshot rings out.
POP-POP!
Then two more.
But, it’s not the ear-splitting explosion from a shotgun.
I open my eyes.
Terry is standing with his hand over his chest. A plume of red is spreading out across the front of his shirt. Blood is frothing from between his lips. He tries to say something, but instead, he drops the shotgun and falls flat on his face.
Kaiden jumps up. He kicks the gun away from Terry’s lifeless body. I run into his arms. I can't believe I’m still alive. Kaiden saved me for the second time in one day.
“I love you,” I moan. Our lips unite in hungry desire.
“I love you, too.” He picks me up and spins me around. My legs fasten around his waist. Our mouths lock together like magnets made from love.
Two police officers burst into the room. They tell us to get away from each other. To drop to the ground and put our hands on our heads.
“No,” Kaiden says. “I’m never letting go of this beautiful angel.”
