“Come on,babe. How about you and me go find somewhere a little more private? Don’t you wanna feel what it’s like to be with a real man?”

His hand travels down my hip. I push him away.

I’ve been a server long enough to know how to deal with assholes like him.

“I’d rather have sex with a goat."

A few of his friends laugh and jeer. His face turns red. Blotchy. He looks like he wants to slap me.

Suddenly, I realize I've just made a massive mistake. I should have known better. It’s a bad idea to insult a rich person's ego.

“What did you say?” He grabs my wrist, pulling me to him. It’s all I can do to stop myself from dropping the tray of food I’m carrying. “It sounded a lot like you were talking back to me? Which can’t be right? A fat, lowly funking server girl, talking back to me! Do you even know who I am?”

"Let go of me!"

I’m just about to knee him in the balls when a massive hand clamps down on his shoulder.

He spins around so quick, I almost fall over. Then he’s in the air. His feet aren’t even touching the ground. A huge, giant in a tuxedo is holding him by the throat.

I recognize the man. Caden Magnus. He's some world-famous billionaire tycoon person. He's always on the news. On the front of magazines. I just served him some sushi in the VIP area. He smiled at me. I remember the way it felt to look into those intense green eyes. Like time itself had slowed down and I was standing in the presence of a god.

“What the fuck do you think you’re doing, Brett?” His voice is a low growl. He sounds like a grizzly bear. The hair on the back of my neck stands up. The amount of strength required to hold a grown man in the air with only one hand is phenomenal. I’d be scared if I wasn’t so turned on.

Brett, my handsy attacker, tries to say something, but his face is turning blue. He’s not getting enough oxygen to the brain. His windpipe is slowly being crushed.

Saliva dribbles out his mouth and down his chin. He tries to grab at Caden's hand, but he’s not strong enough. His feet dangle uselessly. Flapping about like a fish that’s just been caught and is only moments away from death.

“Please, stop!” I rush forward, wrapping my hands around Caden's huge forearm. Underneath his shirt, his muscles feel like steel. "He's a creep, but he doesn't deserve to die."

“Stop?” Caden sneers. “You want me to let him go?”

I nod my head. He’s so damn hot, I can’t even speak.

“Fine.” He drops Brett to the floor. Like he’s a piece of garbage that needs to be thrown out and buried in a landfill somewhere.

Brett scampers back across the floor. He’s clutching his throat. Sucking in huge mouthfuls of air. “You’re going to regret this, Caden!” he hisses. “I’m going to sue your ass for everything you’ve got. I’ll never have to work another fucking day in my life. Look at all these witnesses. You’re done! You hear me? You’re done!”

Caden takes a step forward. Brett leaps back so far he crashes into a random woman's legs. I wouldn’t be surprised if his boxers have big brown stains in them.

“No, Brett,” Caden leans down and grabs him by his shirt collar. “You’re the one who is done.” He looks around at the crowd who’s gathered. I only just realise, but the music has stopped. The whole fucking room is looking at us. I’ve never felt more exposed in all my life. I wish I could just crawl in a hole and disappear. “I’m going to ruin you. I’m going to drag your court case out for years. I’ll put a whole fucking army of lawyers on it. It’ll use up every cent you have. You’re family? Forget them. They’ll leave you. I’ll make sure of it. You’re friends? They’re already gone. You don’t have any. You’re toxic now. A persona non grata. The only job you’ll ever get will be washing toilets. If anyone so much as smiles at you walking down the street, I’ll find out and I'll make sure it’s the biggest fucking mistake of their lives.

"Now leave." He stands up straight and rubs his hands together. Like he's cleaning them after touching something dirty. "You’re fired. You’re scum. You make me sick. The mere idea of being in the same room as you makes my skin crawl.”

Brett hurries to his feet. He looks around for support from his friends. They’re all looking at the shoes or at the ceiling. Some of them are even backing away. Physically distancing themselves from him.

“Fine!” His voice is still squeaky from having his throat squeezed. He sounds like a petulant teenager. “Fuck you!”

Everyone watches as he pushes his way to the exit.

It’s only once he’s left that the music starts again. People go back to having a good time. Like nothing ever happened. But the Caden Magnus is still standing by my side. Looking at me.

“I’d like to apologize,” he says, “on behalf of Magnus Shipping. I am truly sorry. Brett's behavior was unforgivable..”

He’s talking about Brett like he’s dead. I shiver runs through my body. I should step away, but for some reason I find myself moving closer. He’s like a magnet. Pulling me into his orbit.

“It’s okay.” I have to crane my neck to look him in the face. He’s so damn tall. It’s like he’s not even the same species as everyone else. “You really didn’t have to do that. I could have handled him myself.”

“I’m sure you could have.” He reaches out and cups my face in his hand. It feels so good. I could just wrap myself in his arms and stay there forever. “I’m sure there’s a lot you can handle by yourself. But, you see, my name is Caden Magnus. This is my company. And as such, that vile piece of vermin who just accosted you was representing me...” His eyes lower to my name tag. They linger there for a second too long. He enjoys what he sees. I can tell by the way his tongue glides over his lips, “Violet.
