She kisses me and heads to the front door. I take up a position at the window. The curtain pulled back just enough to let me see what’s going on, but not far enough for Wayland to see me watching him.

From the looks of it, he’s pretty pissed.

Kara opens the door and smiles at him nervously. I can’t really hear what she’s saying, but I can tell from Wayland's face that he’s not liking what he’s hearing.

He grabs her by the wrist, and I jump to my feet.

Before I know it, I’m at the front door, pushing past Kara.

“Get your fucking hands off her you piece of shit.”

“Woah!” He steps back and pulls a gun from his jacket. “I told you not to speak to me like that. Looks like I’m going to have to teach you both a lesson tonight.”

I push Kara behind me. Using my body as a shield in case Wayland’s stupid enough to shoot me on the front steps of my mom’s house.

“The only one who’s going to be learning a lesson, is you.”

I take a quick step forward and grab his gun hand. Too fast for him to react. A look of shock spreads across his ugly face. Before he has a chance to do anything, I whip my head forward and crack him on the nose with the top of my skull.

A load crack explodes in the night air as the cartridge and bone in his face crumple and smash to pieces. Wayland staggers backward. Barely conscious. But I’m still holding his hand.

Using his momentum against him, I charge forward, grabbing his jacket collar with one hand and lifting him in the air above my head.

I can hear Kara scream behind me, but I don’t have time to look around and see what’s happening. I’m taking out the trash. And never in my life have I felt so righteous when giving a man an ass-whooping.

I spin around a few times like one of those Olympic hammer throwers. Enough times until I have a good amount of centrifugal force going and my balance is just right and I’m not so dizzy that I think I’m going to fall over. Then, just as the angle feels right, I let go of Wayland. He goes flying over the hood of my truck. Lands in a heap in the middle of the road.

He doesn’t seem to be moving, but I don’t want to take any chances. He still has a weapon, and the idea of him coming around and going postal on us isn’t a pleasant one.

Carefully, I approach him, but there’s no need for me to worry. From the looks of it, he won’t be waking up for a good long while.

I take the gun from his hand and unload it. Taking it apart and throwing the various parts down a nearby storm drain. Then, just to be careful, I stamp on his right hand a few times. He won’t be bullying anyone else anytime soon. That’s for sure.

Back at the door, Kara has her hand to her chest and her mouth's wide open. “You shouldn’t have done that.”

“What?” I say. “And stand by and let that piece of scum put his hands on my woman?”

“But I’m not your woman, River. I’m just your mother's nurse. And I still owe that piece of scum money. What’s he going to do to me?”

“He ain’t gonna do shit, Kara. Not while I’m around. And, although you might not be my woman yet, I think that’s about to change. As soon as I rip those clothes off you and bury my cock between your legs, you’re mine. And I’ll do anything to protect you. Anything.

“That is what you want, right? To be mine?”

“I guess,” she bites her lip nervously.

“Aint’ no guessing about it, honey baby. It’s a yes or no answer.”

I pull her to me and she giggles as my lips press against her cheek. “Yes, River. I want to be your woman. More than anything in the whole world.”

Kara

River picks me up.I wrap my legs around his waist. He kicks the door shut with the heel of his boot and carries me back into the living room.

I can’t believe what he just did. I can’t believe what he just said, either.

The idea of being his woman has me wetter than I’ve ever been in all my life.
