“Now take me back to the house,” she says. “I need the restroom so bad I’m likely to wet myself, and besides, my show’s starting soon and I don’t want to miss a second of it. Beverly was caught cheating with Simon’s wife yesterday and Kim accidentally left her camera filming in the same room. It’s all about to blow up, River. It's about to blow up!”

“God,I can’t believe she turned out to be a vampire the whole time!”
River picks up the remote and turns off the tv.
“Yeah,” I say. “It was a bit of a shock! Who would have thought!”
“You didn’t even watch the movie,” he says, laughing. “You want the last slice of pizza?”
“Nah, you go ahead.”
I chew my lip as he reaches over and grabs a huge cheesy slice of pepperoni pizza. It looks delicious. But I’ve already had enough food for one night, and I don’t want him to think I’m a pig.
He looks at me out the corner of his eye. I turn away. Blushing.
Lilly’s asleep in her armchair. A thin line of drool running down the side of her face. I get up and wipe it with a Kleenex. She stirs in her sleep but doesn’t wake up. “I guess I better go put your mom to bed. Thanks for the movie night, River. It was just what I needed.”
“Wait…” River stands up. “Why don’t you let me do that. It would be a shame to have to wake her, and I can just carry her to her bedroom. Besides, I don’t mind doing something around here for a change. Makes me feel useful.”
“Okay.”
“And maybe when I get back, you can tell me what’s on your mind.” He puts his arms under his mom and lifts her in his arms like she weighs the same as a piece of paper. She rests her head against his shoulder. The gentle sound of her breathing slowly coming from her mouth. “That is, if you want?”
“Sure.” I twirl a bit of hair around my finger. “I guess I can stay up a little longer. There are a few things I’d like to speak about.”
“Good.” He winks at me and starts walking out of the room. “It’s a date.”
A date?
My heart leaps in my chest. Does he mean that? Or is it just a saying?
God… living with this man all week is driving me crazy.
At first, I hated him. I thought he was a big, dumb idiot. But as I’ve got to know him, as I’ve got to know the real him, I’ve learned that his heart's just as huge as his biceps. He really cares about his mom, and if I’m not mistaken, he really cares about me too.
He probably thinks I don’t notice the way he looks at me. But, the truth is, I just don’t know how to respond.
He’s so out of my league, it’s unreal. I keep telling myself that it would be crazy to do anything with him. That he probably just has the hots for me because he’s a man and I’m the only woman within arms reach. I’ve never really been the kind of girl men lust over. I’m too big for that. Too curvy. And River’s so handsome it’s like he’s stepped right of a movie.
I rush over to the mirror and muss up my hair a little. Apply a bit of lip gloss. Squeeze the girls together and pull my best sexy Instagram selfie face.
The lights are pretty bright in the living room so I turn them off and switch on a couple of floor lamps. They use the old bulbs and the light is kind of yellow and it gives the room a pleasant, romantic atmosphere.
Quickly, I pick up the empty pizza box and the plates that are sitting on the table and I manage to tidy up the room. Anything to keep my hands busy and my mind off what I’m about to do.
A dinner knife drops to the floor and I bend over to pick it up. Just as I’m wrapping my fingers around the handle, I hear River walk in the room behind me.
“Oh, boy,” he groans.
I shoot up and turn around. My face must be the same color as the tomato sauce on the pizza we eat earlier. I feel so embarrassed having him see me like that. Down on my knees. My ass in the air. Like I was waiting for him to just come up behind me and ravage my pussy.
“I dropped a knife,” I explain.
He takes a step towards me. Puts his fingers around my hand. I can feel the warmth radiating off his skin, and that’s not the only thing I can feel either...
