Then, as I’m walking to the bathroom to clean myself up, there’s a banging on my door.
“Duke!” It’s daisy, and it sounds important. “Duke, are you in there? Duke!”
I run my hand under the tap. “Coming!” I yell back. “Just a minute!”
Throwing on yesterday's pair of jeans, I run to the door.
Daisy looks even better than last night. As if that’s even possible. Her cheeks are rosy. Her hair's a mess. She looks like she’s just jumped out of bed. I can see the little round dots of her nipples poking through her thin t-shirt.
“I need you to come quick!” She grabs my hand and drags me out of the room. “It’s my dad. He’s fallen down and had an accident.”
I look at the clothes I’m wearing. Or, more importantly, the clothes I’m not wearing. “Don’t you think I should put on a t-shirt first?”
She stops and looks at me. I can feel the blood rushing to my cock as her eyes linger over my abs and my chest. I want to pull her into my arms and smother her with kisses. But there are more important things to take care of first.
“Okay,” I say. “Forget it. Let’s go.”
We run across the parking lot and then jump over a small fence. The ground is rough and painful on my bare feet. The morning air is cold. I haven’t had any sleep, but I’m wide awake. Watching Daisy’s perfect round ass swing from side to side as she gallops towards the farmhouse is the best start to the day I could have hoped for. Not that I'm happy her dad is hurt.
“Here he is!” she says, bursting through the front door to her home.
Daisy’s mother rushes up to me. She’s a large, powerful-looking woman with a kindly face. Her eyes are bright, but full of worry.
“Thank God,” she says, “Please, come this way.”
I follow her into their living room. Daisy’s dad is laying down on the sofa with a bag of ice on the back of his head. There’s a thin trail of blood running out from beneath his hairline. He doesn’t look happy. “Gosh darn!” he says. “I thought I told you, I don’t need no fancy-ass city doctor coming around to tell me I’ve hit my head!”
“Now, now,” his wife stands over him with her hands on her hips. A formidable woman if ever I saw one. “Don’t you be so ornery. We have a doctor staying with us, and he’s happy to help. You just sit back and let him do his job, you hear?”
“Humph,” he says, looking at her out the side of his eye with a frown on his face. He may be built like a brick outhouse, but it’s clear who wears the trousers in this relationship.
I kneel down beside him. “Where does it hurt?”
“Where d’ya think?” he snaps back. “The ice pack on the back of my head ain’t a big enough clue for ya?”
I reach around and feel a large lump on the rear of his skull. There’s a cut there. Daisy fills me in on what happened as I continue my inspection.
"He was out loading the truck for a delivery later today, when he slipped and fell," she says. "Unfortunately, he was also carrying a piece of farming equipment that really should have been carried by at least two people. Probably three. He managed to save himself from being crushed, but the thing fell on his leg and his head hit the floor. It wasn’t until I was doing my morning chores that I found him on the floor. Groaning in pain. Half unconscious. Cussing like there’s no tomorrow, and bleeding heavily from a head wound."
“It sounds like it could have been a lot worse,” I stand up and take a cloth from Daisy’s mom to clean my hands with. “As it is, I wouldn’t be surprised if you have a concussion. Your pupils are distended, and you seem sensitive to the light. There’s nothing broken in your leg or in your head. But that doesn’t mean they’re not gonna hurt like hell. A few day's rest and you should be back on your feet. But you’re gonna have to take it easy for a while after that, too. If things get worse, I recommend a visit to the hospital. You never can be too careful with a head injury.”
“A few days?” he scoffs. “You think I’m gonna sit in here doing nothing for a few days while there’s work to be done? You’re out of your damn mind!”
I look at Daisy and her mom for support, but they just shrug their shoulders. I guess they knew this was gonna be his reaction. They were probably hoping I could convince him otherwise.
I scratch my chin and try to think of my best approach. And that’s when an idea pops into my head. I’ve been lying awake all night thinking about Daisy. I’ve been thinking about how I don’t wanna leave this place. And suddenly the perfect opportunity has just dropped in my lap.
“What if I stay on a few days?” I say. “I can help out around the place, and I can keep an eye on you, too. Medically speaking.”
“Help out?” he says. “What’s a city boy like you know about a hard day's work?”
“I’ll admit, my hands are soft. I haven’t done manual labor in quite some years. But if that’s what it takes to keep you out of trouble, then I’m willing to give it a go.”
Daisy steps forward. “I think we should take Dr. Duke up on his offer.” She looks from her pop and then to her mom. “He may be a city boy, but he looks pretty strong to me. I’m sure we can find some work to keep him busy. Besides, can’t do any harm having a fancy doctor around the place, now… can it?”
“Well,” her dad says, “I don’t like it.” He pokes his finger at me. “And don’t you think you’re getting your room for free, either. You work hard and I’ll pay you a decent wage. That’s the deal, and you can take it or leave.”
“I’ll take it,” I say, looking sideways at Daisy. “And I won’t let you down.”
