“Fun?”
I note the intense intrigue in his voice.
“I turned off my phone because I didn’t want you bothering me. Always bothering me…” I mumble.
I ride the movement of Orion’s chest as he chuckles. “That’s because I trust you with my life, Lila. I wouldn’t know what to do without you.”
“Poisonous apple,” I whisper as I nuzzle closer to him, making myself a bit more comfortable.
“What?”
“You’re a poisonous apple and I can’t forget it.” It felt like I struggled to get those words out.
Orion shifts in his seat. I raise my body, breaking our contact, suddenly remembering that it’s best if I keep distance between us. Things are happening within me at the moment. My sex is tingling just a bit. I still like the way he smells too much. And I still love the way he feels too much. But this man that I’m cooped up with in the back seat of a limousine is indeed Orion Lord, king of the scoundrels.
“No, please, come back,” he says, curling his fingers, seductively waving me to him.
I shouldn’t do it. I should cling to the opposite side of this huge car, but I can’t control what I yearn for. “Umm…” I snuggle up against his strong body. “You feel so good.”
“So do you, Lila. You’re soft.”
“Lilly,” I remind him.
“But I like Lila. You look like a Lila. Beautiful and exotic. I always wanted to kiss your mouth, you know. Your cherry lips…I always wonder how soft they are.”
All of my sensitive parts are throbbing like they have their own heartbeat. Orion has said a mouthful and I’ve already forgotten half of it. But he mentioned my lips. He wants to know if they’re soft. I tilt my head back, pointing my mouth at him and wait for the moment of impact.
Through my lidded gaze I see him staring at me, his lips part, and breaths lather my face. I’m on the verge of devouring the poisonous apple. I’m seconds away from stripping naked and dancing on the mousetrap, and I’m okay with that.
“We’ve arrived,” the driver’s voice says through the back seat speakers.
But Orion and I don’t move a muscle. I’ve succumbed to the power he’s holding over me. I imagine I’m making the same fatal decisions made by all the women who have come before me. I’m powerless to stop what happens next, only he can put an end to this catastrophic moment of ours.
Suddenly, Orion clears his throat. In slow motion, I watch his sensual lips go up to my forehead. He plants a soft, mildly damp kiss on my skin.
“Let me help you out,” he says breathlessly.

I’ve soberedup enough to walk without leaning on Orion for support. Although his arm is still around my waist, which makes it easier for me to put one foot in front of the other. Our closeness doesn’t feel like a big mistake as we enter an elaborately decorated Vegas-style lobby. Orion Lord tells the bellman his name and we are immediately escorted to a private elevator. I love that this man is all private elevators and exclusive access. I hate waiting in line, and over time I developed tricks to limit my time spent standing in them. For instance, I have a few favorite nightclubs that I have remembered the bouncers’ names. Sometimes, I walk by those clubs on days I’m not going inside and wave and say, “Hi, Marquis!” Or, “Hi, Lance!” Or, “Hi, Billy!” Or, “Hi, Don Juan!” People like to be known, especially bouncers.
“Where are you taking me?” I ask as we take a smooth ride up the building. I’m fighting the urge to take advantage of this fine specimen of a man that I’m with. What’s his name again?
“To another party. But we’ll have our own private area and I’ll get you a few cups of coffee.”
“Oh, Orion.”
“What?” he asks.
“I don’t want coffee.”
I think I just admitted the truth. I prefer the state that I’m in. If I were sober, then I couldn’t do this…I squeeze him around his torso and he puts a soft kiss on top of my head.
“We have to get you sober, kid,” he says, as if he’s the responsible one.
“What about you? Are you sober?”
Orion chuckles as the doors slide open. “Not in the least.”
