“So, beautiful,” the guy next to me says. His face is too close so I lean away from him.
I frown as if to ask, “What?”
“So, how did the two of you meet?” He flicks his eyebrows up twice as though he’s ready to enjoy an amusing explanation.
My mouth remains caught open. Does he think I’m romantically linked to Orion? Does he think my judgment in men is that bad?
“He’s my boss.” I sound very offended by his question because I am. I follow the guy’s glance down to my breasts. I very much want to fold my arms over them as he continues imagining me topless.
“Is that so?” the guy croons with his eyes still on my tits.
“Hey, Morgan,” Orion shouts, waving his fingers, gesturing for the guy who seems to be leaning in closer and closer to me to stand. “Get up.”
Eyes lidded, Morgan looks confused but slowly rises to his feet. He’s plastered. And I think I am too. In a quick exchange, Orion sits in Morgan’s chair and points for him to take the seat he just abandoned. I’ve never been so thankful to be this close to my boss. That guy Morgan was drunk and starting to become creepy.
“Really…” one of the twins asks, the one with the darker hair. “The two of you never fucked?” Her pointing finger shifts back and forth between Orion and me.
“Never,” I say, shaking my head adamantly.
But they’re not looking at me for the answer. Their attention is focused on Orion who’s grinning as if he’s suggesting that I’m lying. I elbow him in the arm.Ouch.That hurt. I rub my elbow. He’s made of steel or something. But still I say, “Stop insinuating that I’m lying. We’ve never fucked. Tell them.”
“We’ve never fucked,” he says, gazing into my eyes.
He’s screwing with them and me. “Why are you so unserious?” I whine. I’m not myself. This I know for sure. I’m blinking. And he’s slightly blurry.
“You’re drunk,” he says, stating the obvious.
“No, I’m not,” I quickly retort.
One of the guys at the table snaps his fingers and a cocktail waitress rushes to our table. His arm ropes her around her waist, definitely crossing a line, as he whispers something in her ear.
Warm breath saturates my ear. “Be careful, Lila. The sharks are circling.”
I turn. Orion’s face is so close to mine we could kiss.Yuck.
“You’re drunk and they all want to fuck you,” he reiterates.
He sounds crazy. “Who wants to fuck me?”
One by one he points his chin at the men who are seated around the table. They are watching me as if they’re trying to figure out how to get next to me. Holy crap, how hadn’t I noticed. Maybe because they’re Orion’s friends.
“But don’t worry. I’ll protect you.”
I blurt a laugh. The thought of being protected by such a scoundrel makes me laugh again. It’s just…I laugh some more. “The man who…”
I can’t get the words out, I’m being choked by my laughter. Everybody at the table is watching me with amusement.
“The man who what?” Orion asks.
How do I say it? I can’t even say it. As I struggle to get myself together, the cocktail waitress returns with a tray full of shots. One of the glasses has blue liquid.
“That’s for you, beautiful,” the guy who ordered the shots says. He’s leering at me with pure lust.
“Oh my God,” I whisper. It’s the dress—it has to be my dress.
Orion laughs. “You see. You need my protection, don’t you?”
“Who is that guy?” I ask.
