Geter sighed, “Ok, fine. Fair warning if I see her back in this building, I will talk to her.” EJ urged, “Shoot your shot, Geter.” I growled. EJ rolled his eyes, “At getting information not anything else, little brother.”
I said, “If she won’t tell me, Cayden, or Micah my mate is not going to tell him.” EJ shrugged, “Probably not but she might talk science things with him that she wouldn’t have a reason to discuss with someone who doesn’t understand on a higher level what she wants to do. Geter can speak the language. Micah can talk coding to her all day, but Geter can talk science.”
I nodded admitting, “That’s true. Melanie does have other experiments she wants to try.” Geter rubbed his hands together and his eyes sparkled. He asked “Ideas? Ideas like what exactly?” EJ snorted, “She has a lot actually. I saw her notebook. She wants to isolate the moment someone’s heart rate drops to a dangerous level and have some sort of device that pulls you to safety. Like a pack hospital.”
I gasped, “Can she do that?” EJ said, “She seemed to believe she could. Ladybug was also working on noiseless shoes. I saw an old page she’d marked as done. I’m pretty sure she’s got blades, stakes, and something else in her shoes that her watch controls. I really want my watch by the way. With a lesson in what it can do. I’m just saying.” Geter was practically drooling.
My dad chimed in, “I want one too, just saying.” I laughed, “I’m pretty sure I should get one first.” My dad replied, “You got chipped first.” I smirked, “Technically EJ was first, for Elise.” EJ growled. Geter asked, “Huh?” I laughed, “My mate likes knowing where people are.”
Geter shrugged, “Who doesn’t? Can you have the muffin Luna stop by this week?” I laughed, “I’ll mention you’d like to meetwith her.” Geter smiled saying, “I might just have to bump into her before her ceremony Thursday. I hear she’s often in the pack house with muffins or in the gym. Or making all the meetings more interesting. Are you sure she’s not a partial Fairy?”
My dad laughed, “She’s not.” Geter smirked, “She’s intriguing. I can’t wait to get a peek of this book Alpha EJ has seen.” EJ snorted, “I’m sure you would. The things we know of that she’s come up with are impressive.”
Geter asked, “What has she come up with that you know of? Officially anyway because you are clearly keeping secret what you unofficially know.” I answered, “Well, she has her remote type of watch that seems to have no limits. They talk to each other on them too.”
EJ said, “Ladybug also apparently has contacts that keep our eyes from showing the color change. For example, a Hackura gets angry, but no one would see if their eyes turned gold. I wonder if it works for our wolves. Also, she has these concealers that can hide people’s marks.”
Geter whispered, “Remarkable. I very much look forward to catching the Muffin Luna and picking her brain.” My dad snorted, “Don’t say that in front of my wife.” Geter replied, “I have learned not to say many things in front of Princess Haley. Sometimes for fun, some of us might say things to hear how she interprets them then rants about our realm.” I laughed.
My dad said, “I have noticed that.” Geter snorted, “Of course you have. You seem to notice everything.” My dad replied, “I do try, but I miss things.” Geter said, “Not in this pack you don’t.” Dad chuckled, “I try not to.” I felt in the bond he felt like he missed things though.
We walked outside together. I asked, “Has anyone noticed anything odd happening today, Dad?” My dad frowned answering, “Not really. Why?” I shrugged, “Melanie is ontosomething.” I began to feel jittery. I snorted, “And I’m pretty sure she’s had too much coffee.”
I linked my mate, “Lovebug, I think you need a coffee cut off.” Melanie answered, “No, I need more coffee… because I need to keep going. Coffee is life.” I raised an eyebrow. EJ said, “I take it she did not agree that she’s had too much coffee.”
I heard a barking laugh and turned around to find Mason and Hendrick doubled over in laughter. EJ asked them, “Problem?” Mason waved his hand and kept laughing. Hendrick gathered himself to say, “You think Melanie is going to agree to stop drinking coffee?” We all nodded.
Hendrick cackled, “No, she will literally never do that. You’ll have to tell your staff to hide the coffee and the coffee maker. Then you’ll have to hide her keys and hope she doesn’t know where the nearest coffee shop… or store is. Or that her watch is out too.” The watch had coffee?!
My dad said, “Basically you’re saying there is no stopping my daughter in law from drinking coffee.” Mason laughed, “Ask Micah about the first time Alexander emailed Melanie. He saw the height of the caffeine consumption.”
“Because we did eventually switch the pots to decaf, but then she started drinking pop instead. So, we let her go back to coffee. Never give her more than one energy drink.” Mason emphatically stated, “Ever.”
My dad linked me, “I’m positive there is a Fairy way to stop all that.” I agreed, “I’m sure you’re right.” EJ linked me, “What if consuming all that caffeine makes her talk?” I snorted. Hendrick chuckled, “No, let them try to do it Mase. They would be so unprepared for the number of words, and thoughts, that come out of that girl. It’s like the energizer bunny on steroids.”
I linked EJ, “So, I don’t think caffeinated Melanie is like drunk Melanie.” I asked Mason, “How often does she do this?”Mason snorted, “All the time. She always drank coffee, but then she had days where she’d be cooking for the whole pack.”
“Breakfast had to be ready at six o’clock on the dot for the first wave. Melanie had to make sure there was enough food through ten in the morning. Then she had to clean up. Usually, Mel also prepared lunch and dinner.”
“Then she had chores she had to get done. Mel typically had to clean the rooms in the pack house. A lot of people didn’t like her, and Booker encouraged the males to make it as messy as possible. Several pulled pranks on her by spilling paint on the floor.” I growled.
He wasn’t done though, “Once they poured honey on the carpet and lots of other shit like that. Their bathrooms were a nightmare I don’t even want to discuss. There’s a reason Mel wakes up so early. To her, getting four hours of sleep is a lot.” Fury filled me.
I snarled, “How could they do that to her? Melanie was a visitor, and the pack leadership KNEW THAT!” Hendrick snorted, “We knew that at first even though they had her join as Ashley. The answer to your question, is because they are horrible people.”
Mason shivered saying, “Melanie took a hell of a beating after the paint and honey incident because of what she did in response.” EJ frowned, “What could she possibly have done? The carpet would have been ruined.” Mason smirked, “It was but there was hardwood flooring under the carpet.”
My dad laughed, “She didn’t.” Mason nodded, “Yup. Mel ripped up the carpet and exposed the hardwood underneath. Mel washed the floor after pulling up the carpet, and she found a floor restorer and used that to finish it off.”
Hendrick offered, “Honestly it looked better than the horrendous carpet in all the other rooms. The Alpha lost it due to the damage she supposedly caused. Melanie showed them thepaint and honey stains, but they still beat her and threw her in the hole.”
Mason growled, “Then when they brought her back up, they made her pull up all the carpet on the first floor in the main house because they liked how the hardwood looked better than carpet.” EJ said, “I’m sorry, have they not heard of hiring people who do that as a job? We would pay people to do that if we couldn’t snap it all done, which we can.”
Hendrick snorted, “They had free labor, whom they hated. They wanted Mel to fail. Even when she didn’t fail, it didn’t matter to them. Her body is basically trained at this point to live on little to no sleep.” I said, “That can change. It will take time, but she could get back to a regular sleeping schedule.”
Mason warned, “You’ll be tearing her away from her computer tonight then. Should you want to start your process of getting her back to a normal sleep schedule. You’ll have to be subtle too. She had all those duties and Female Lead Warriors duties with other miscellaneous tasks for several years now.”
I shrugged, “Then that’s what I will do. At a certain point, you aren’t functioning at your best.” Hendrick laughed, “Mel does. That girl thrives on chaos, and she took everything and interpreted it into a Supernatural side you possess. Those were taken as a challenge, like a Hackura would. That is how she survived and thrived, and because she’s a Beta blood. Thank god.” They walked to the main house after that.
