Kingsley nodded, “As far as what I’ve found about the Vampires, I haven’t seen him but there are rumors there’s a very old vampire there with his child and his child’s mate. They are somewhat of a trio. The rumors are one of them can compel any supernatural being.”
“They claim they can even compel Fairies, but we know that’s bullshit. Rumors and gossip have exaggerated their abilities. I’m still digging. You are a popular topic there.” I’d been about to tell her Sherman’s name, but that comment brought me up short.
I frowned, “Me?” Kingsley nodded, “They want you there somehow, someway. I haven’t seen Booker because he’s being punished for you being with the allies. Watch your step, and I’ll keep an ear out.” I urged, “You too, Kingsley. You’re literally in the lion’s den. The number of people that would want you at their disposal if they found out what you were is high. Not to mention… a certain Demon family disappeared.”
Kingsley smiled, “I know they did. They are worried your Xander is going to destroy them.” I snorted, “They should worry more about your mate.” Kingsley shrugged, “They don’t know that though. Besides, I have a feeling you and I will see those Demons again. Maybe in our Resistance masks.” I grumbled, “Let’s not borrow trouble.”
Kingsley shrugged and changed the topic, “I’ll keep digging. There are rumors of a Fairy turned vampire with a Fairy mate being in that trio I told you about.” I sighed, “I’ve got to get to Faerie and confirm my theory about Xander’s family.”
Kingsley nodded, “Keep your eyes peeled for your mate, as well as yourself.” I nodded, “You do the same. You look happy, K.” Kingsley smiled, “I am. Hastein is amazing. Some of my memories have come back. I have an older brother and a sister. Idon’t understand if something happened to them. Or where they are or why I’ve been alone all this time. We seemed close.”
I knew the Dragons still had their realm. They’d circulated they died after they closed it off, but it clearly wasn’t true. The question was why wasn’t Kingsley there anymore? What scared them so badly they erased her memories and sent her to a realm where she couldn’t be free to fly? We just didn’t know the answer to that.
I asked, “Have you told Hastein what you are?” Kingsley sighed, “Not yet. I need to shift soon though. Kayda is antsy.” I still had that building available for her. I said, “You know… Hastein… statistically speaking, has a sanctuary in the Hackura realm.”
“Kayda could actually fly outside without being seen there. Fairies can create Sanctuaries only specific people can get into… and no one can see them… which you know… it was on a test… that you passed. So… that’s an option for you to show him who Kayda is.”
Kingsley's eyes lit up, “Do you really think so? Kayda and I would love that. Plus, H wants me to see the whole realm. I just worry about being equipped to be their Queen.” I said, “You are royalty in your own right, K.”
Kingsley confided, “I am royalty. In my memory, my siblings and I were preparing for a banquet. We were announced as the Crown Prince and the Princesses. The vision faded before I could see my parents.” I hugged her, “It will all come back. Someone did this to protect you. Trust me when your memories come back in a snap… it’s some kind of crap.” Kingsley smiled at me.
A pop sounded and I saw Angela looking at me expectantly. I laughed and made introductions, “Angela Conners this is…” Angela interrupted, “Kingsley. Cousin Hastein’s mate. This is Klaus, my mate.” Klaus waved.
Angela squealed, “I just HAD to meet you, Cousin Kingsley. Cassie will LOVE your hair. It’s super cool! You’re cool. You two have some adventures coming up. Just remember you have possessive mates that are around you both now.” My youngest sister in law winked and popped away with Klaus.
Kingsley laughed, “I think we will definitely be running into some Demons in Resistance masks, Mel.” I groaned, “Let’s just… not say that. It could be something else. There are actually quite a few possibilities…. It’s not like we are never in danger. You are literally doing something where you are in constant danger at the moment.”
Kingsley replied, “And my mate can’t say a damn word. He’s the Crown Prince of the Hackura. Hastein has been doing dangerous things his entire life.” I laughed, “That’s true… but he wouldn’t say anything… because he’s trained to understand those things. He’ll just have your six. By the way… Xander is coming…like right now…towards us.” Kingsley smiled saying, “Then H is coming too.”
Seconds later Xander walked in with Hastein just behind him. I couldn’t help but smile at how Kingsley and Hastein were together. My friend deserved every happiness, and my mate’s cousin obviously made her happy.
I got onto the topic on sanctuaries. Freya told me, “Kayda is quite excited, yet nervous, to reveal herself to her mate.” Hastein would be thrilled and…well definitely shocked. Because while the Hackura had been watching Aiden reach out to Dragon’s….they definitely didn’t think they existed anymore. I winked at my mate’s cousin because boy, was he in for a surprise. Kingsley’s Dragon was a beautiful sight to see. It was astonishing though… to see something you didn’t think existed anymore.
Once they left, I had some questions and my mate had his. I avoided the topic and asked if we could go to Faerie. Icomplained to Freya, “After the holidays?! UGH.” Freya said, “If you told mate why you wanted to go, we’d get there faster. Oden said he’s contemplating our honeymoon there now.” YAY! Freya chuckled at me.
That was true and it wasn’t like I didn’t have things to do between now and then. We walked back into the gym together to dance. Addison grabbed me and linked, “Let’s show off our moves that you taught us!” I laughed because I’d choreographed some dances for us girls for fun and for when we were distracting men at a club.
I could feel Xander’s lust and curiosity. I’d have to avoid talking about these dances. I studied Dalton as he approached us and tilted my head curiously because the man was nervous. Why was Dalton nervous? Freya boasted, “I know.” Of course she did. Caulder probably told her because she asked.
Paige was loving every second of this dance, so Dalton had no reason to be nervous. He led Paige away from our group as a slower song came on. Dalton subconsciously patted his pants pocket. My eyes widened. He had a ring… HE WAS PROPOSING?!
I ran over to Xander who confirmed that’s what was happening. Tristan linked me, “You had to know that was coming. You told him and me to propose.” That was true, I had done that. I was getting used to the whole people listening and taking my advice thing….again…they used to… in my old pack… which was the territory I was currently in. It would just be an adjustment to remember.
The second Paige said yes, I was running over to her with Addison, Avery, and Valentina to hug her. Paige couldn't stop smiling she was so happy. I gave her a hug and whispered, “I am so happy for you.” Paige squeezed me tightly and replied, “I never thought we’d all have this. I didn’t even let myself hope,but here we all are. I’m even happier than I ever could have imagined.”
I told her, “You so deserve every happiness, Paige.” Addison grabbed her next. I nodded to Dalton saying, “Congratulations, Dalton.” He smiled, “Thanks, Ladybug.” I gave him a quick hug that clearly surprised him, then awkwardly stood there until Xander led me away.
We ended up in another classroom for a very different purpose than a meeting with Kingsley. After Xander made me come, he led me back to the gym but quickly left right after. I frowned watching him leave. Why did he leave?
Freya began to pace in my head. I asked my wolf, “What’s wrong?” Freya admitted, “I don’t know, but Oden feels off.” I quickly ducked out of the gym knowing my brothers were following me, but I didn’t care. I let Freya come forward and followed Xander’s scent. He was in the men’s bathroom.
When I heard him hit his knees I didn’t care where he was, I went in. I pushed through the door and found him falling. I caught him and laid his head in my lap. I linked, “Freya, what’s happening?” My wolf growled in reply.
Xander started to disappear and I felt pure, raw anger. My mate was going into the Ribbon while he was awake?! That wasn’t supposed to happen. I just wanted ONE normal night! Now, the goddesses couldn’t wait until we fell asleep to ruin the perfect night? It had already been an emotional enough day.
Suddenly, I felt tired too. Jason and Tristan burst into the bathroom. Jason shouted, “What the fuck?!” I looked at my hand in wonder, because I was disappearing. I whispered, “This is weird.” Then I was gone. I looked around my new surroundings and quickly realized where I was.
I was outside my old house, but I didn’t see Xander anywhere. I heard people talking though. Robert said, “We have enough people here. The girl who is pretending to be Melanie is hereto leave with the family. Well, not the real one but you get the point. No one should be immune to the illusion, but we have the numbers to fight anyone who tries to interfere.”
