Gabe said, “You met that woman with your mate yesterday, right? Or did you just pop your mate to her?” I answered, “I met her. She’s interesting and quite pretty. Her hair is practically white blonde with a color on the bottom. In fact, part of her hair is naturally Hastein’s favorite color.”
EJ snorted, “Her hair is purple?” I nodded, “The bottom is.” Gabe clarified, “Your saying H’s mate’s hair is naturally blonde and purple?” I answered, “Yes, it looks nice too.” Gabe asked,“What the fuck is she?” I acknowledged, “I have no clue. She wouldn’t tell me, and I could not figure it out.”
Gabe snorted, “I believe your mate is up to her signature rambling. Hastein is growing impatient.” EJ said, “He’ll have to keep giving it sometime. Ladybug’s got a lot of words when she gets going.” I smiled agreeing, “That she does, and she’s all mine.”
I was a little curious how Kingsley got into our territory. No one reported sighting her. She was on the mountain though, that much I knew. I could figure out how she didn’t have a scent. Melanie had that worked out, but someone should’ve reported seeing her. Hastein portaled away from Melanie.
My mate joined our group. EJ linked me, “We are woefully unprepared for Melanie.” I reasoned, “We knew that.” My brother nodded. Oden chuckled, “Mate basically told Gabe to butt out and leave Hastein alone.” She did but was certain Melanie even realized she had just told a Prince of the Hackura to fuck off. It was adorable.
EJ was confused about what was going on. I hadn’t told him Kingsley was here in our territory. So, my big brother has no reason to suspect that. Considering no one reported seeing anyone running around. Uncle Bjourn joined us, clearly pleased and impressed with my mate.
I studied Melanie, wondering if Gage was right. How high up in the Resistance was my mate? Was she that high up to make these calls? Or was she led to believe she was? My wife had just essentially burned one member of their organization to the Hackura.
Not just any Hackura either, the Crown Prince. My mate had no poker face, so she wasn’t even concerned about getting in trouble for it. Plus, she did it for her friend so that Kingsley could be happy. As well as doing it for my cousin. Melanie didn’t have to introduce them or get them together at all, but she did.
A low level person shouldn’t be able to make decisions like that. I needed to watch my mate and wife, very carefully. This could upset the higher ups if it got out. Sometimes when you had autonomy you overstepped.
I wouldn’t let them do a goddamn thing, even if they even considered slapping Melanie on the wrist for this. Melanie acted with her heart. I caught Gabe and my uncle’s eyes. They were having the same thoughts and both nodded to me. We’d protect Melanie.
I popped us back inside and we danced the rest of the night. I clearly needed to keep my mate closer to me. One, she’d somehow know before I did if something was going down. Two, I liked having her nearby. We’d been far enough away a lot of this evening, and now Hastein was taken care of.
As happy as my Aunt Astrid looked, I knew Hastein must be VERY happy right now. The bond we shared wasn’t hard to find either. Hastein was definitely with his mate. Uncle Bjourn and Aunt Astrid even snuck away for a bit.
All of Hastein’s siblings had vanished. Oden snorted, “We can feel our cousin, but they feel him so strongly since they don’t have to search for it.” My wolf was right. Eventually people started interrupting us so they could dance with Melanie.
My mom caught me after I’d handed Melanie off. She smiled and I led her back to the dance floor. Mom told me, “I am really fucking happy for you both, Alexander.” I smiled saying, “Thanks, mom.” She nodded, “We are still going to have a chat. You know, if something is bothering you to the extent it did, you can always come to me.”
“I will find a fucking way to make everything work out. I am always here for you, Alexander. You may be an adult, but you’re my son. I will always let you kids make your mistakes, but when you need me; I will always fucking be here.”
I told her, “I know that, mom.” Mom kissed my cheek and said, “Good.” I watched Melanie dancing because it was mesmerizing. My mom changed the subject, “I noticed that Hastein disappeared.” I snorted, “All of my cousins have disappeared.”
My mom snorted, “Hastein disafuckingppeared first.” That meant she knew where Kade went, or she’d consider him to be the first. Interesting. I laughed, “I saw him leave.” My mom snorted, “I feel him in the bond, and he’s really fucking happy.” I agreed, “He is.”
My mom laughed, “How very interesting.” I smiled at her. I told her, “I’m worried about Melanie.” My mom frowned asking, “Why?” I sighed and linked her, “The Resistance. My mate makes moves without consulting them.”
My mom questioned, “Who the fuck is them?” I shrugged, “I don’t know. The ‘them’ that is charge of the Resistance.” My mom's lips twitched. She told me, “You are worried they will be upset with her.” I snorted, “Yes. She made a move tonight without consulting anyone. It was a move with her heart for a friend.”
My mom gasped, “I FUCKING KNEW IT! That woman IS Hastein’s mate. I mean the bond told me, but confirmation is always nice. Melanie sent him to her. God, I’m so fucking good.” I snorted. My mom kissed my cheek as the song ended.
Mom told me, “Don’t worry so fucking much. Melanie will be perfectly fine. She’s a bad ass.” I nodded. My mom seemed very confident about her assessment that Melanie would be fine. How could she know that this wouldn't get her in trouble with the Resistance leadership?
I shook that off. Mom must believe we would be keeping Melanie safe. That had to be it. She was right too. I danced with some of my brother’s mates. I grabbed Jane and pulled her ontothe dance floor. I couldn’t help but notice my sister in law was watching Melanie.
I linked Jane, “It’s all out there now about Melanie being in the Resistance. You can talk to her. You know that, right?” Jane admitted, “I asked Sierra to put me on her calendar.” I laughed, “You guys are officially family. You don’t need to be put on her calendar. You can just talk to her.”
Jane whispered, “I owe her everything. Everything Theo and I have, and will have, is because of her. I know I wasn't going to make it after my last scheduled fight. They talked about it outside my cell. Some guards even taunted me, that if they were nicer they’d find a way to get me a nice last meal.” Theo growled and I shot him a look. My brother gave me one right back.
Jane laughed, “You guys are too much. I am fine. I’ll have pups one day with my mate, and it’s all thanks to her. Melanie was healing when I saw her. I don’t know what happened, but I know that she saved my life. I cannot thank her enough.” I kissed Jane on top of the head.
I told her, “Little sister of mine, we are all happier than we can express that you are here with us.” Jane changed the subject, “My dad’s going to travel for a few months here soon. My brother has taken over and my uncle has combined our packs. My family and old pack are more protected than we were then.”
I asked her, “How do you feel about that?” Jane had a lot to deal with when she’d come home. Her mother was gone, and she moved because she was mated to Theo. Jane said with a bright smile, “I know he’ll come back with his second chance. My brother told me what Luna Emmaline said to my dad that day. I think he doubts it, but I feel strongly that he will be coming back with her. I can’t wait to meet her.”
I complimented Jane, “You are a very mature woman.” Jane replied, “Mom would want dad to be happy. She often told him she would never want him to be alone, because she wasconvinced he’d forget his head if it wasn’t attached to his shoulders.” I laughed.
Jane whispered, “I just want him to be happy again.” I told her, “If my cousin says his second chance is coming then she’s coming.” Jane acknowledged, “I know.” She pulled back and winked at me as she said, “I’m the one who booked his trip.”
I laughed, “You’ve been hanging out with us mischievous Fairies for a while now.” Jane agreed “I have, and I’ve learned from the best. Sometimes you’ve just gotta move the pieces yourself. That’s my Luna side, combined with picking up on Fairy fun things.” I laughed as she went back to Theo. All my siblings’ mates were one of a kind.
