A stain of red covered her cheeks at the compliment as Hailey nodded and shrugged.“Sure, whenever.”
“Good, maybe I’ll be able to see your work before dinner.”
Hailey watched the men move out the door. She watched them walk together.Besides a slight height difference, they looked the same, walked the same, and, unfortunately, shared the same attitude when it came to her.She turned, grabbed a glass of water, and strolled into the office. She pulled up the project she was working on and went to work.
Fortunately, she had her work to keep her mind off the men.If she hadn’t had a distraction, she knew she would have gone bat ass crazy eventually.
Chapter Six
Dinner went smoothly. There weren’t a lot of sexual undercurrents that bombarded her at that moment, as they had earlier that day.The men talked about the ranch, things to be done, and the men they employed.Every once in a while, one of them would ask her a question, but for the most part, she was happy to just listen to them.
She’d never seen Adam this relaxed with anyone except her.She hadn’t realized how much he’d missed his brother until that moment.
Hailey often wondered if there would ever be a chance for her sister to want to build a relationship with her.But their father had done so much damage that it might be irreparable.
Adam pulled her along by the hand after the three had finished the dinner dishes.Adam said goodnight to his brother as Drew got comfortable on the sofa to watch the news.
Adam closed the bedroom door.“Let’s unwrap you.”
Adam pulled her to the bed, sat, then pulled her in between his widespread legs.
Neither talked as layer after layer was discarded.Hailey bit her lip to keep from giggling. She waited for her husband to smile or get impatient, but he did neither. When the bandages were in the garbage can beside the nightstand, Adam inspected and carefully felt around the wound.
“It looks excellent.Drew did a good job cleaning it.”He stood.“Go take a shower, love, while I turn down the bed.”
Hailey glanced back at him as she walked into the bathroom. His emotions at the moment were a worry to her.He hadn’t said a lot, and when they were alone, he hardly said anything.Hailey hoped that didn’t mean she was in more trouble than she first thought.
Hailey undressed, put up her hair so it didn’t get wet, and stepped into the shower.Within two minutes, she was out and drying herself. She wrapped the towel around herself and tucked it between her breasts, then brushed her teeth.A quick glance told her his mood hadn’t lightened when she walked into the bedroom with a bottle of lotion.
Adam watched for a moment as she sat on the bed, smoothing lotion over her body before taking his own shower. Not long after that, he reached for the light switch.“Are you ready?”
Hailey nodded and placed the bottle on the nightstand. She stood, tugged the hair band out of her hair, and then dropped the towel before sliding under the covers.
Adam pulled her towards him until her back was against his chest.
A long moment later.
