Breathe, just breathe.

Then there's the information about the blue warehouse, the planned hit on the Russians. That's valuable intel, the kind that could potentially bring down multiple crime families. That's originally why I'm here, after all. It's why Bill...

A lump forms in my throat at the thought of Bill. What would he think of me now? Would he be proud of how far I've infiltrated, or ashamed of how much I've lost myself in the process?

I feel as if I'm on a battlefield where duty clashes with desire, where loyalty fights with... love?

Is it?

I don't know, but it's something I've never felt before, and now I'm torn between the woman I was and the woman I've become. Anna Bennett, the FBI agent, sworn to uphold the law, to bring criminals to justice. And Sofia, the mistress of a mafia hitman.

I close my eyes, trying to silence the war within me. But all I see is Gabriel's face, all I hear is his voice, all I feel is his touch. I remember the very first night we spent together, the passionthat consumed us, the connection that transcended everything I'd ever known.

But, he's a killer. A criminal. I've seen firsthand the violence he's capable of. And yet, there's a tenderness to him too. A vulnerability that he only shows to me.

So, do I tell them everything? Or do I hold back? Give them just enough to keep them satisfied without compromising Gabriel or my position within the Bonventi family?

The rational part of me knows what I should do. I should tell them everything. It's my job, my duty. But the part of me that's fallen for Gabriel, that part wants to protect him, even if it means betraying everything I've ever stood for.

The door opens suddenly, startling me from my thoughts. Agent Harris enters with another man I've never seen before who's holding a bag.

"Anna," Agent Harris says, his tone serious. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine," I say, lying. I am anything but.

"This here is Agent Greens," he says, pointing to the man I don’t recognize. "He's the one who's been running this operation."

I nod as Agent Harris closes the door behind them.

Agent Greens eyes me. "You seem to be doing well, all things considered."

"I've managed."

"What can you tell us?" Agent Harris asks.

Agent Harris points to a chair. "Please, have a seat. I'm sure you have a lot to share."

I hesitate, then share the basics. "Luca's dead. The Russians killed him. Gabriel took me from the Capstone. I'm living with him now."

"As his mistress?" Agent Greens probes.

"Something like that," I say, my voice tense.

Agent Harris leans in. "Anna, do you realize how dangerous this is?"

"Dangerous?" Agent Greens interrupts. "This is unprecedented access to the Bonventi family, just as we hoped."

Hoped?

"Look, Anna, I'm going to be upfront with you," Harris says. "I was one of the ones who wanted to pull you. You're fresh out of training. Your lead on this is dead, and Isabella thought you were compromised. So, I need to know right now, are you?"

I take a deep breath and push every contradicting thought out of my head and lie. "I'm not compromised. Let's just focus on keeping me safe, unlike Isabella."

"I'm sorry, what do you mean?" Agent Greens asks and leans forward. "You know where she is?"

"Wait, you don't?"

The men look at one another and then back at me.
