“You said you loved me last night. Did you not…” I trail off, dread filling me.
“Oh.”
“If not, that’s?—”
“I love you too,” she says quietly.
I let out a breath of relief.
Holly kisses my shoulder again, and I slip a finger under her chin, tilting her face so I can kiss her.
She sighs and relaxes against me, and I growl low in my chest, happy to have this moment with my mate.
My phone buzzes, and I frown as Holly climbs out of bed.
I grab my phone and scan Foster's message. “I have to go into town. Meeting about the cult.”
“Okay, I’m going to Adeline’s,” she says, tugging on her clothes from yesterday.
“I’ll drop you off. And I can pick you up so we can grab your things and bring them here.”
She nods, looking happy and loved.
We did that,my wolf howls proudly.
We finish dressing and leave the house. I drop her off, kissing her goodbye, and then head to City Hall to meet the other Alphas.
Rhodes starts once we’re gathered around the table. “How’s Holly?”
“Good. Bruised, but good.”
He nods and takes a deep breath. “What are we going to do about the cult?”
“I’ve been thinking about that,” Foster says. “We should start a regular patrol unit and establish a rescue protocol for anyone who wants to escape the cult.”
I nod along with the others, and we talk about logistics.
“We could call it The Midnight Haven,” Cyrus says, talking about the shelter for those looking for refuge.
“And the rescue team can carry out patrols, alerting us to any attempts or kidnappings,” I add.
“I’ll spread the word around my Pack,” Rhodes says, and we all agree to do the same.
“Doctor McAdams says he’ll help with the shelter,” Foster says, checking his phone.
“Good, we might need that. The cult seems to be more than willing to use violence,” I say grimly.
I shift in my seat as my wolf paws at me, anxious to get to our mate. Pushing to my feet, I say, “I’ll let you know who signs up.”
“Same,” Rhodes says as he stands.
We file out, and I make a beeline for my truck, following Rhodes to his place. I park next to him, and we head inside. I smile as I hear Holly giggling with Adeline, and my wolf sighs happily inside me.
“Go get your girl,” Rhodes says with a knowing smirk, “so I can have mine.”
I grin, clapping him on the back and following Holly’s laugh to the kitchen.
“Hey,” I greet her, pulling her into my arms for a quick kiss. “Ready to go home?”
