Foster smiled. “Long overdue.”
“At least it went the right way this time.”
“Hey, you two want to join us? There’s plenty,” Damien called over.
“No, that’s all for you guys,” Foster said, not letting go of Jude’s hand as he walked closer to the table they were setting up. “We already ate, and I’m still stuffed. Though, I might have a slice of pumpkin pie when I get back home.”
“There’s more pie?” one of the younger firefighters asked.
“Just the one,” Foster said. “That’s for us, I’m afraid.”
“Aw, damn,” the young firefighter said.
“I’ll have to put in an order for an extra couple of pumpkin pies for next year,” Foster said to them.
The whole team hooted with delight.
“See you guys around,” Foster said before gently tugging Jude toward the station door.
“Thanks, everyone,” Jude added.
“Nothing to thank,” Damien said before shoving a forkful between his lips. “I appreciate your service to the community tonight.”
Jude grinned.
Foster scanned the lot and his SUV before they crossed to it, ensuring Rick wasn’t outside waiting for them. When they got inside and locked up, he noticed Damien standing in the open doorway, scanning the lot, too. He waved to them after Foster started the engine and disappeared back inside.
“Ready to go back for that slice of pie?” Foster asked.
He turned to eye Jude.
Jude grabbed both sides of his face and planted a kiss on his lips.
Foster leaned into it, missing the touch of Jude’s mouth on his. He slid the fingers of one hand through the short, silky curls at the nape of Jude’s neck, tugging the man closer.
When they parted for air, Jude eyed him.
“Pie… and then your place?”
Foster froze. “As long as this isn’t just sex this time.”
Jude grew very quiet.
Foster worried he’d said the wrong thing.
“It was more than just sex before this time.”
Foster searched Jude’s face, grinning.
Jude chuckled. “Push your luck, Price, and I just might change my mind.”
“Hey, you can’t tell me I was right all along and not expect me to crow a little.”
“That’s all you get.”
Foster smiled. “It’s enough.”
“Let’s go try that pumpkin pie, hmm?”
