We both pull up chairs and sit.

“Dad something’s come up and I think you might have answers. It’s very important to me that you’re open and honest with me.It really is.”

“You’re starting to worry me Logan. What’s happening boy?”

I quickly give him the rundown of everything from the past. Then focus on Quinn’s mother.By the time I’m through my old man looks older than his years.

And he looks like he knows something.

“You know who she is don’t you?” I decide to say.

He releases a ragged sigh and runs a hand over his beard.“Yeah. I know.”

“God Dad, I’m not sure if I should be happy or … wary.”

“Logan, like I said the other day, that family had a lot of secrets. That was one of them and I wasn’t supposed to know that.It was Barry who found out and told me and that was long before he and Lilly were married.I’m talking like when it all happened.”

“You mean when Peter was fucking around with a minor?”

Normally he tells me off for swearing, but even he has to agree with me.“Yeah. There was no end to what that man got up to.Logan, at the time your mom was really sick and you have to understand I had a family to look after.I don’t know much about the story, but I know who she is.”

“Can I have a name, Dad?”

“Heather Vaughn. You should also know that a few years back, that guy that washed up on the beach was her older brother, Mark Vaughn. He worked for Peter, as youknow.I think he found out what happened to his sister and Peter got tohim.I don’t know for sure, but I saw themarguing. You don’t argue with a man like Peter unless you’re crazy, or something made you thatway.”

My God. Fucking hell. I hate when I’mright and obviously that's the brother Lilly referred to in her letter.

That was him. He was Heather's brother.

The deeper I dig, the more there is to findout.

At least now I have a full name to workwith.

And, I can find Quinn’smom.

Quinn

“Her full name was Heather Vaughn, but it’s now Heather Cormack. She got married a little over ten years ago,” Logan says, making his way to the other side of the table.

Resting before me is the file he brought on my mother with her picture at the top.

He found her. Logan actually found her.

I stare down at the picture. Below it are her details, but I just keep looking at her.

Now that I’m seeing her and I know who she is, the resemblance is striking.

Maybe it was that resemblance that first sparked my interest, but I wouldn’t have thought anything of it at the time.

I flick my gaze back up to Logan’s as he sits and rests his elbows on the table.Outside the kitchen window, I can see it’s just started to rain heavily.Heavy like there’s bad news abroad. Not this time though, at least not for me.I’m nervous as hell, but I feel good about this.

“Thank you so much for doing this for me.I can’t believe you found her,” I breathe.“How the hell did you do it? And so quickly.”

It was only two days ago that we sat here in these very spots and spoke of finding my mother. Now I’m here with everything I need to find her.

Logan gives me a sexy smile that sets off the nest of butterflies in my stomach.

“That’s how I work. Baby.”
