Christ, this is all I need now.
“Hi,” I say with a slight quiver in my voice, hoping my skin isn’t still bright from my afterglow.
“Hi there Ms. Cambray,” he says.“I thought you might like to know that we’re ready to start working on the dance school. We have a few choices of design for you to select from.”
“Everything’s so pretty,” Bree bubbles.
The contractor opens the book he’s carrying revealing the most gorgeous designs. They're so breathtaking that even in my angst filled state they steal my breath away.
A bubble of excitement fills me at the thought that I get to build something like this from scratch. It’s almost like it’s mine.
“These are all so beautiful,” I breathe.
He smiles. “We thought you might like them.I’m gonna leave these brochures here with you.Once you select the design you like we can work from there on all the other parts.”
“This is fantastic. Thanks so much.”
“You’re welcome. I’m glad you like what you’ve seen so far. That might mean we can get the work underway sooner rather than later.”
“That would be great. I’ve been looking forward to this.”
“Well my number’s in the front of the brochure if you have questions.Don’t hesitate to call.”
“I won’t.”
“Great.” He stands and gives me a curt nod before he leaves.
“This is so exciting,” Bree says coming over to me.
“Yes. I’ve never been involved in the planning of anything this big and meaningful.”
“Me neither. It’s gonna be good.I hope you don’t mind that I came by earlier than planned.I wanted to get stuff out of the way before we head out later.”
I narrow my eyes. “Later? What’s happening later?” I’d forgotten we had plans.
“We’re going out with the girls. To the club. I messaged last night to confirm and you said yes.”
Oh God. I remember now. That was after Logan left.I’d said yes but I got my days mixed up.I didn’t realize tomorrow, as in today, was Friday.
“You’re still coming right?” Bree brings her hands together, and gives me her best pleading face.
“Yes. Of course, I’ll go.” Even though I don’t want to.
It’s going to be awkward seeing some of the girls I haven’t seen in years.
It’s three of them. Mary, Tennessee, and Clarissa.Bree’s told me that Mary and Clarissa are both married with kids.I’m sure they’re probably both dying for the break of a night out, and if they’re all still like they were in the past, I know I won’t have to worry about having a good time. It’s just me again, worrying myself about being in awkward situations where the past might come up.
“Yayyy. I’m so glad. It’s gonna be a blast. We decided on the Kat’s Tale in town. It’s new and up and coming. They have the best cocktails there.”
“Yay. It sounds great.”
“Perfect, well now that’s settled I’m gonna ask why your dress is on inside out.” She looks down at my dress and a flash of amusement crosses her face.
When I look at my dress that’s so obviously inside out, I wince and groan inwardly. What’s also obvious from the pattern of the dress is there’s no way I could have left the house today with it looking like this. The backing of the embroidery is on show as well as the massive care labels tagged to the side.
“Oh,” I mutter. “I didn’t realize.”
Bree bites the inside of her lip but her eyes widen with mischievous delight.
